OpenCPN S-63 charts incompatible with mbtiles?

I am trying to use some S-63 ENCs in tandem with satellite photos in mbtiles format. Normally the S-63 charts display correctly, but if I switch to displaying the mbtiles satellite photos and then switch back to the S-63 charts all I get is a grey screen.

Similarly, if I change to the split view mode, when I set one side to display mbtiles the S-63 charts on the other side turn grey as soon as they are required to update, e.g. if I zoom in or out. If I pan the display, the part of the chart that was previously showing remains but new parts that were not previously on the screen are grey.

I am using the S-63 plugin version 1.19.00 with OpenCPN 5.8.4-0 on Windows. I get the same result on 2 different computers, one Windows 10 the other Windows 11.

Is this a bug in the S-63 plugin?

Hi I have asked about this issue a couple of times now and Dave has started looking into it. It seems to happen in 5.8.x but not in 5.6.x.
Also it happens on both MAC and Windows machines.
