OpenCPN on Raspian

Good afternoon all,

I'm new on these forum so thanks in advence for your help.

I'm planning to use my Raspberry Pi4 Model B with the Raspian OS ("Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye)") to run OpenCPN on my Feeling 920.

I have installed the 5.2.4 version of the software.
So far I have two issues:

- I can't manage to install the latest version of OpenCPN 5.8.0
I try to update using the LXTerminal but it doesn't work.

- I try to install the O-Charts plugging but doesn't work.
I "click" the the plugging but it doesn't appear in the charts option. I dont't understand why...

Re: OpenCPN on Raspian

You could try the openplotter image which sets everything up for you, active community & any bugs tend to get fixed quick.

The V4 is still beta but most things work now & is based on bookworm so might be worth having a look at that as well, I've been running it continuously onboard for a few weeks now & it's been rock solid.

Re: OpenCPN on Raspian

Connect your RPI4 to the internet.

Hold the Shift key impressed during startup. Then you get the installer. Take the choice RaspiOS64

Put an medium in, like an SD, SDD or fast usbstick. Then the OS is installed direct from internet.

After the install the Flatpak enviroment: sudo install flatpak.

Then the OpenCPN flatpak version. Go to then to the site Flathub.
Search for OpenCPN. Press install..

Then on your system go to the folder Downloads. There is the OpenCPN installation sentence.
sudo flatpak install (the downloaded sentence). Then you have OpenCPN on your system.
To get all the plugins. Go to plugins in OpenCPN and click on update plugins.

That is is all you have to do.

Re: OpenCPN on Raspian

Would you both verkerbr and barcoMeCasa review the User Manual instructions for RPI Installation?

https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...on:linux:rpi23

also for RPI GNSS https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...tarted:gps:rpi

and provide a text file with any necessary changes or new text? Showing Two different ways of installing is fine.

If you PM me with your email and preferred username, we will send you an email to edit the manual. Thanks!

Openplotter has some of the better documentation for opensource already so maybe just updated links are all that's needed>
