Any comments?
Taking the position from the RMC sentence this is not a place with "clear sky" conditions.

The border control building shall produce a nice jump when driving through for example. Even archs with traffic signs or lights can confuse GNSS receivers for some seconds.

Searching TalkerID "OC" results in "OpenPlotter Calculated"

The track in the screenshot are past data. On the boat I had three green bars.

Re: opencpn gps jumping

Roede...

OK, good info. Interesting that the error happens mostly (always?) in longitude. May we see the full GPX export of the track showing the error?

Thanks
Dave

Re: opencpn gps jumping

Sorry for coming back to you all so late, I was busy elsewhere....

Did not have time to export the track data but it jumps sometimes in latitude too.

I think I will give up on opencpn for the moment. There is too much to debug and I've tried it on two different setups (W10 on a toughpad and Android on a samsung). I will try one of the commercially available plotter software.

Cheers

Might not be the software, I've had similar on an xperia tablet but only ever with internal gps, never with the boat gps streaming over wifi. Google maps may well have some smoothing algorithms built in which wouldn't work so well for boat nav. GPS essentials app on android should let you see what's coming in from the internal gps.

Re: opencpn gps jumping

Good luck Roede. You got pretty good support from this group. We're here when you come back. You could try a GPS Puck for $20 to see if it is perchance a faulty Samsung GPS. That is far less than what you'll spend.

Re: opencpn gps jumping

Hi,

Of course folks, I did not blame you! I just don't have time and nerves to debug anything at the moment... Thanks for your help so far!

Any recommendations for a GPS Puck on a Samsung TAB S4?
How to connect? The charging port might be not free on long navigation... And there is no other USB port.

Cheers

Re: opencpn gps jumping

Bluetooth GPS? Question is if your Android Tablet will support a serial BT connection. Very few do.

Re: opencpn gps jumping

Roede,
Years ago, I used some BT apps to get my Samsung Android Galaxy S4 phone's GPS into my Windows Laptop Opencpn. I tested and used several apps. I do not know if they would go the other way, ie take your GPS signal from some BT device and use it on your Android, but it is worth a try.

Here are some of my notes Look at the additional links below this page too.

https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...droid_gps_apps

Hope it helps. Perhaps a search on Google Playstore will yield some highly rated app that will give you a way to check your signal.

Re: opencpn gps jumping

Hmmm everybody is assuming that the composite boat is transparent to radio signals. If it is carbon composite it will not be, many paints attenuate RF some darker colours very considerably.

That said if the OP has a carbon composite boat he is unlikely to going cheap on his tablet
