OpenCPN Beta Version 5.5.928 Released

Here is OpenCPN v5.5.928

Windows
https://dl.cloudsmith.io/public/davi...1ee0_setup.exe

MacOS
https://dl.cloudsmith.io/public/davi....9271ee05b.pkg

ubuntu/debian linux:
Available now in the OpenCPN Beta Ubuntu Launchpad repository

flatpak:
$flatpak update org.opencpn.OpenCPN//beta
$flatpak run org.opencpn.OpenCPN//beta

Source code
https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN
branch : master
tag : Beta_5.5.928

Changelog:

1. MacOS (Apple) plugins compatible with O5.5.x are now available in the master plugin catalog.
There are only a few so far, more will follow.

2. Corrected main toolbar displacement, no longer obscures menu bar.

3. Correct ASSERT messages on startup, seen on linux gtk3 only.

4. Correct chart panning by mouse on MacOS (Apple)

5. Improve route/track rollover info, especially "bearing" display.

6. Improve Dashboard Preferences wxChoice control (drop down selectors) layouts.

7. Improve logic for route editing, adding/combining points and sub-routes.

8. Expand DSC/DSE message handling, FS#2801.

9. Re-implement Canadian current stations.

10. Add line-wrapping to S57Query, ExtraInfo dialogs.

11. Updated translations. There are also some new translatable strings in crowdin...

12. Update RouteManagerDialog button visibility, etc.

Notes:
1. Please take a look at crowdin translations. I think that we are finished with all text strings in the source, so now all are ready for translation.

2. Please let us know if your issues discovered in earlier testing have been resolved, so that we can knock them off our punchlists.

Good Luck, and Thanks for your help
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 5.5.928 Released

Dave..
Win10.
One user here, Gunnar, sees the same thing during installation also as with this version: https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3487806
But no impact on further installation and running. Works fine.

Dave..
Win10

One issue not implemented by 5.5.xx but valid also here.
If I deactivate Anchoring info at Canvas hamburger menus it's again activated at next O restart.
Is that a bug or a feature?

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 5.5.928 Released

3 issues here, on Win10:

#1) On a first time install of this Beta, I accidentally had my old v5.2.4 running, & got the attached installation error. It can't open archive.dll for writing.
  • Is it illegal to upgrade while OpenCPN is running?
  • Can't the installer shut down OpenCPN (or ask to shut it down) so it can continue?

#2) Shutting down OpenCPN & restarting the upgrade seemed to work OK, except that it didn't keep my upgraded HARMONICS files.

I think there are a fair number of folks using these files now, to get tidal data for more remote areas.
  • Is it possible for the installer to detect that the HARMONICS files are not what was originally installed, & preserve them if that's the case?
  • Oh, I see, you've made it easier to add additional Harmonics files. Cool! Thanks!

#3) Finally, can I please get on whatever list is used to tell folks that there's a new Beta out, & the discussion for it is *here*? These threads appear & are moved to new threads without much notice. I only find out about them accidentally, & I'd like to know sooner.

Thanks!

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 5.5.928 Released

Another very minor issue on Win10: When I went to Plugins & clicked on Settings, I get the attached dialog.

The second line starts:
To despite the dangers enable them manually add ...
This is pretty convoluted English. Somewhat better might be:
To enable them despite the dangers, manually add ...
As I said, very minor. I just report 'em...

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 5.5.928 Released

Win10 with Norton 360.
Both Norton and Windows Defender objected to the downloaded file and I had to dredge it out from being quarantined by Norton and not run by Defender with overrides.

When I hit Update plugins a message popped up that OpenCPN website did not have a certificate.... It did download however.

For Release we may want to be sure about website certificates being current etc.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 5.5.928 Released

One of the new features is supposed to be:
FS#2601 - Switch for mbTiles piano keys, & mbTiles wake up OFF
Can someone please point me to where this is? It's a good addition to my original feature request, but I'm not finding it...

Thanks!

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 5.5.928 Released

John Hacking...
In order:

1. Like most other software, it is really required that the app not be running when upgrade starts.

2. You may add your own tidal harmonics files, as you have discovered.

3. There is no global OpenCPN mailing list. We respect user's privacy, so do not gather nor retain any general user information such as email addresses. You have found the Beta in the same way everyone else does, by checking CF or opencpn.org (News) occasionally. We don't "move" discussion threads. Only CF mods can do that. We do, however, start a new thread for each new Beta version. This helps to keeps the conversation concise and manageable.

Thanks for the feedback

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 5.5.928 Released

John Hacking...

OCPN now performs as you requested in FS#2601. MBTiles are all "OFF" when OCPN starts up.

We did not implement the "switch function". I request a new Feature Request for this idea specifically, so that it may be tracked. Compound Feature Requests are difficult to manage, and this one got lost in the shuffles....

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 5.5.928 Released

When inserting a waypoint into a route the user is asked about renumbering the waypoints.

This feature is good but it is a nuisance to keep answering when fine tuning a route.

Please make this an option under Options/Ships/Marks/Points.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 5.5.928 Released

Would someone explain the selection 'Split around leg' for intermediate legs in a route.

It appears to just delete the intermediate leg which, if it is the case, would better be described as 'Delete leg'.

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 5.5.928 Released

Is the oeSENC plugin not yet available?

After updating the Plugin Catalog and then trying to update the availalbe oeSENC to 4.2.17.1v I get a checksum error. The log then says:

I can answer to that :
This is a second option to split a route. True it "delete" the leg but in addition it results in two routes "around" this leg
route ABCDEF -> split around CD = route ABC name _A + route DEF name _B
Off course the term is perfectible and can be changed
