Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 5.5.1015 Released

On RPi 4/400 Debian Buster. A "normal" 15" screen
The GNSS status instrument now arranged to fit also a Win scaled monitor is disproportionately big on the Pi. On attached pict the instrument window is as small I can get it.
There is space between each of the 12 data axis here.

Compare some other graphics below.
Is there anything more to do with this instrument suitable for all system? (I've tried wo success.)

Making the graphical part an optional drop down?

bcn.
I'm not sure I'm following you. Drop down?
On my Windows is the status graph as good as this wide info can be. What about the Mac?

Bram...
Ubuntu "I"...

"All these are running on my Raspberry Pi 4 with 2 GB.
There is however a problem with the serial ports. These do not show up."

What serial ports? By USB dongle? Do they show up with
$ lsusb ?

Thanks for the report

Hi Dave,

most things with the Ubuntu I work allready including the Oesenc plugin and flatpak.

Looking at lsusb, shows all the connected usb ports including the GPS mouse.

But these are not available in OpenCPN and SignalK.

Also done the usermod action for dialout.

Not found a solution.

looking at setserial -g /dev/tty* allmost all tty's are denied.

Only one port showing up: /dev/tttyAMA0 uart: undefined Port: 0x0000 IRQ: 23

But does not work. Is this port connected to Bluetooth ?

Remote keyboard is working with usb dongle and also the Oesenc dongle.

On the keyboard pad I can now zoom-in and zoom-out with two finger command. But not on my touch monitor screen.

Regards and thanks for all the efforts of you an the team,

Bram

You need extra efforts to set up permissions if you use default Ubuntu.

The same applies to making touch zoom work in OpenCPN.

You can try using OS image which has
all these issues (and many others) solved. Or you have to repeat the same steps it does by looking at its code which is open source.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 5.5.1015 Released

Hi Mgrouch,

thank for the overview of the RPI options. Activation the serial ports in the latest Ubuntu Impish seems to me not that difficult. But I cannot not find a simple solution for this basic principle of IO.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 5.5.1015 Released

I have OpenCPN on my Windows laptop, and I see it is available on Mac OS, but why is not available for an IPad?

It seems so many people use an iPad these days for navigation, why is OpenCPN not developed for the iPad? Issues with Apple or something else?

Just curious.

I use iSailGPS on my iPad now, but like OpenCPN for routing.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 5.5.1015 Released

Apple denies software under GPL to be present at the App Store.
Therefore OpenCPN under macOS, Yes, and for iOS, No.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 5.5.1015 Released

OpenCPN works on an Ipad with a VNC reader. The OpenCPN version must be run on another system with a VNC server. Works here very well in combination with a Raspberry Pi with Openplotter.

And of course wireless.

Anyone ever offered an iOS version to Apple?
Anyone ever published an OpenCPN signed version for macOS to get its Gatekeeper happy?

Its not about "offering" - the terms of service of the Apple App Store makes it impossible to distribute software under GPL.
This is decision made by Apple deliberately.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 5.5.1015 Released

Beta test Win10 - oeSENC_pi. O crash at activation.
A couple of users reports when updating from 5.2.4 and then activate oeSENC O crashes after touching the activation button.
The last report shows this before the click. Version 0.0.0! (Also seen by others)
I've asked him to update catalog master. Install a possible oeSENC update and try again. Let's see..
