Ok - your right as usual. Last time I tested this was to load only #970 from Github as a test. Now when #970 is merged and I checked out to the commit before #970 the dialog delay is still there.
So - nothing to be done then? Maybe a "hourglass" to message the user that something is going on?

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 4.8.10119

Win10 using S57 charts
A odd phenomena when zooming in a small scale chart. I not sure it's new and I haven't tested on 4.8
The S57 chart scale is 1:350 000. There are no more detailed charts behind. When I zoom in "to much" to see more details the marks are "overscaled" and disturbed. In viewed scale 1:6650 the mark hight is 40 mm.

Tend to crash Opencpn. I tried it on an earlier version and that also happened.
I think this was directly after I installed the new version. Later I went back to it and tried to make it crash using these checkboxs while doing various things with the toolbars. It seemed stable, although once it crashed. While aligning a toolbar vertically.

I am going to say that the results are inconclusive after messing with this for 30 minutes, and there is not a problem that can be repeated or identified.

I can't reproduce this using Noaa ENC.

re:
"Load a long track and a couple of Kap charts and disk access sky rockets."

Can we be more specific here?
1. How big a track? Can you attach the track here?
2. All view scales? Or just small scale?
3. Can you revert to 4.8.0 and see improved performance?
4. Any other specific data to help isolate and reproduce this case?

Thanks
Dave

Isn't it simply the texture cache creation in the background? Definitely a different issue than Hakan talks about as what he sees is related only to opening the OpenGL preferences subwindow of the Toolbox, not the overall performance.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 4.8.10119

In the latest git comit https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN/c...1362ca31ea2394 introduces a change that I'm not happy with. It is how the wind direction is presented in the gribs Weather Table.

The exact wind direction has been replaced by an arrow. I use this feature for my weather route planning and does not appreciate a change, where I have to guess the exact wind direction and change in wind direction. Why the change?
Either revert or present both the numerical and the arrow, or make it a user setting.

Hakan...

regarding slow OpenGL options screen:
Trying to reproduce your issue.

1. Just how many files/how big is your "raster_texture_cache" directory?
2. Is your ProgramData/OpenCPN directory on a simple hard disk, or somewhere else?

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 4.8.10119

There is a basic error in the new set of user icons, related to the IALA set of navigational marks.

Both the markers above are originally marked as being slap bang on the track.
The expectation is that the middle of the baseline of the marker should end up exactly where the user put his marker.
Quote:
The position of a buoy or beacon is indicated by a small circle (without a central dot) in the middle of the of the base of the symbol.
The picture shows that the marked position ends up in the "middle" of the marker itself.

To late for 4.8.2, perhaps?

Is this different than a previous version? Which version

Can you try the track without the charts, and vice versa?

re:

You can revert to the tabular digital presentation by clicking on the "Dir" label in the first column.

We probably should change the default to be digital, so as to bridge smoothly from whatever version of GRIB_pi that the user had before installing 4.8.2. I'll do that.

@Rick, @JP: Need documentation update

Thanks
Dave

Trying to reproduce your issue.

I tested on relatively slow Win7 Virtual machine, linux host.
With raster cache directory size of 5.5 GB, and 1700 files, I see no detectable stall or lag on opening the GL options window.

???

re:

You are correct. The icons need to be adjusted individually to make them line up in the right place. Mainly this concerns the "official" ATON type symbols. We do not care so much about sub-meter accuracy in the location of a fuel dock.

I will take a quick look at it, but I doubt that all this editing will make it into 4.8.2

Sorry

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 4.8.10119

Made the changes. Any suggestions are welcome!
Question is how to get the click "Dir" switch understood by the user.
Do I need another title or something?
