@bcn - thoughts?

Flatpack is like a new system - it hides or disguises the "host" to some degree.

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 crashes after 20 seconds

Very good. So any future advice to change to Flatpak would include a reminder about o-charts (and S-63?) licenses.
Thanks

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 crashes after 20 seconds

One bad and one good notice - well the bad one is the good one:
we tested again and I'm wrong: flatpack does not change the personality of the system. Charts licensed for the bare system will work with Flatpack too.

Sorry about the noise..

Nothing bad here!
Now we know and experience is very good.

Many thanks for your excellent investigation.

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 crashes after 20 seconds

Hi All, not quite the same, but OpenCPN 5.6.2 crashes when I select the options icon or preferences from the menu drop down. I am running it on a MacBook Air with Mojave 10.14.6 OS. My othe Mac (MacBook Pro) does not exhibit the same problem and runs without fault. Anyone help?

With the "paperclip" - you might want to change the extension of the log file to for example "....log.pdf" to overcome restrictions for uploads.
Select the file and don't forget to "upload" it - the button gets hidden quite often

I looked at the log file. I am not a Mac user.

Some of your tide files are not found. I didn't see much else. You should clean that up under Options > Charts > Tides. Selecting just the ones that exists.
Try closing Opencpn, and renaming your current opencpn.ini or config file, and then starting OpenCPN to create a new INI file. Then setup your chart directories and build all the charts. If that works, then there is something amiss in your ini or config.

You can always remove the new opencpn.ini/config and rename your old one back to original name, if a new ini is not a fix.

It also could be that all your chart files need to be rebuilt (rebuild all your charts, first) , or you have a bad plugin (Disable all plugins first and try that)

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 crashes after 20 seconds

Hi, i followed the instructions, closed OpenCPN, renamed the .ini file and opened the program (which created a new .ini file). It crashed the instant I selected either preferences from the menu (first attempt - renamed .ini again) or the cog from the toolbar. I tried again, opening in safe mode, same result (both methods), so I am unable to go to the next steps, rebuilding charts, removing tide files etc.
My next question would be that if I can't get to preferences/option cog how would I rebuild the chart directories (which are the same on my other Mac and working perfectly)?

Are yio getting a crash report from macOS? Can you post it - the first part with the backtrace?

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 crashes after 20 seconds

As the next process, I completely uninstalled the program (and files in the library - log and ini), reinstalled using a fresh download of the 5.6.2 package from the website with exactly the same results - confused

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 crashes after 20 seconds

No, there is no crash report - as the computer continues as if nothing happened. Only the openCPN window disappears, when I try a restart it asks if I want to start in safe mode, I have tried yes and no, with exactly the same effect.

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 crashes after 20 seconds

Where can I download an older version (say 5.6.0 as I remember this was OK) and try that?

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 crashes after 20 seconds

Your Log file is available from the toolbar ? which opens a menu, and in the lower part is a Logfile button. But your version crashes immediately so that won't work.
You will need to search on "opencpn.log" on your hard drive. Or perhaps you know where these files are normally kept?

Then try upload to here by zipping it and adding .pdf to the end.
