OPEN CPN version 5.8.4 issues

The new version 5.8.4 of OPEN CPN has an issue . The 2 sections from the OPEN CPN help manual under "create a route" as copied below, do not seem work. Help please!

"Hovering the cursor over the route brings up a yellow roll-over rectangle. It shows the name of the route (if it is set in the properties dialog), the total length of the route, the course and distance for the leg under the cursor and distance run so far along the route to the first waypoint in the current leg. Looking at the four legged route above. The total distance is 8.8 NMi. The third leg is 1.89 NMi in true direction 160° and the accumulated distance in the first two legs is 4.76 NMi.

If your desired route extends off the currently displayed chart, move the route cursor in the desired direction and the display will automatically pan to show the area. You can zoom in and out with the mouse scroll wheel or keyboard +/- keys during route creating. You can also right click and select 'MAX DETAIL HERE' or 'Scale Out' during route creation. When finished right click and choose end route from the context menu or press the “Esc” key. "

John...
Which/what part(s) do not work?
I'll need more than a copy/paste of the manual.

Thanks
Dave

Re: OPEN CPN version 5.8.4 issues

bdbcat, when making a route I thought the chart was supposed to change or scroll in the direction of the route, mine is not doing that, have to end route and start another one but that's not going to give me total distance, number of way points etc. do I need to enable a setting or is there something else I'm forgetting? Total newby, wish there was a open cpn- signalk for dummies, I could sure use it, thank you!!

John...
Is this a touch screen system?
If not, please check Options->UserInterface->EnableTouchScreenInterface checkbox.

Thanks
Dave

John...

Disable Options->UserInterface->EnableTouchScreenInterface checkbox.

Then creating routes with a mouse should work as documented.

When hovering active route there are some items that are displayed with no separation.
Windows version.

Corsair..
I suppose it's the graphic handle on your screen making it dense.
There are spaces in the code and when I try the same on W10 it looks OK.
Edit:... It could of course also be a miss in translation on Crowdin. That is spaces are accidentally deleted when translated?

Hi Hakan,

Also, tested in computer on board.

same behavior, Windows 11 Pro ARM64 ES, latest patch Sep 12, 2023.

maybe as you pointed could be a translation error because another computer should not be a "pixel" density.

Hi Hakan, agreed with you, I've reviewed those strings and found another ones with spaces missing, I've exchanged what I found.

also, emphasizing in IMO/OMI approved translations from COLREG either another international Codes with the official code languages, like English, Spanish, French, etc. all these official languages have the same value with no prevalence from one to another.

there are some strings that are clearly stated in the Official Spanish version of the maritime codes that could not be translated by means of "votes" they have to be named as the official version in each language.
one example:
"not under command"
translated in program as:
"Sin Control" - this has no sense in Maritime Spanish and it's not the official description in the Code.
"sin gobierno" - I do not say it, this is the official denomination with same value than English version.

that means when we refer to standard maritime phrases there is always an equivalent version in the official languages.

of course, when displaying normal messages, we can accommodate the best translation possible to our language.

Re: OPEN CPN version 5.8.4 issues

Hum .... Just a double " ::" ....

After searching the crowdin, it appears that the French version had an unnecessary ":" in the translation.
Correction made in the crowdin, which will be taken into account in the next version of OpenCPN (but not tomorrow !).
