LINZ (and AHS) distribute a base set and fortnightly an update set. The latter is accumulative and contains all updates since the edition of the last base set.
We maintain the base and the actual update set on our PC..
Merging might work as well, but I never tried.
Merging doesn't seem to work for OCPN.. working on recreating your tree now. Merging works on other systems I have installed S63 on.

Re: New Zealand: ENC now in S-63 format for free

Looks ok.

Point the chart importer to Root_ENC.
What is in the NZ, TO and NU subdirs? Shall be the cells for NZ, Tonga and Niue. Each with its Catalogue.031 I suppose.

The importer shall traverse the structure.

My example is from the beginning of the trials. But the general structure of S-63 sets is always quite the same.

Still get 404 when I click http://o-charts.org/downloads.html

And "here" link takes you to this page and the bar with manuals and shop wan't showing up , or I scrolled it off screen, or didn't see it on my phone. I was expecting the "here" link to take me directly to the detailed instructions.

Most probably the page of the OpenCPN manual has not been updated to reflect the actual link of the S-63 manual.
One for the tick list...

The importer does traverse the structure.. I see everything read in but nothing appears in O??? Should it make a directory in "chart groups" I see nothing.

Merging might work as well, but I never tried.

Thinking a moment about merging: this will not work as both directories - base and update - have the required catalogue.031 file.
You will override the base catalogue with the update catalogue and not amend the first one.

What says the log file? OCPN should have created a chart directory with the charts adding it to the chart list by its own.

I recreated your structure and now I think O is importing the files although there is no evidence except in processor usage. But perhaps it has hung.. time will tell!

I think on the commercial systems there is a smarter chart import system that unzips into separate directories and keeps the catalogue files separate and intact. Didn't think of that part of it.

This is why I wanted to be part of the trial so that I could contribute this hick-ups to the wiki/manual.

Re: New Zealand: ENC now in S-63 format for free

Up and running thanks .. So basically the error was not having the Base and Cumulative update files unzipped into their own directories. It should be like the attached directory tree, achieved (in my case) by placing the downloaded *.zip files in the NZ sub-directory of "Charts" and unzipping them to their own named sub-directory.

Re: New Zealand: ENC now in S-63 format for free

OK another problem.

This time a completely clean install on W10 machine that had never seen OCPN before.

When it came to importing the cell permits I got an error message for every cell as shown in the screen clip.

No errors in OCPN's log file.

Only way out was to use task manager to kill OCPN. Closing down OCPN appeared normal but resulted in the error notice continuing presumably until it had processed every permit.

Re: New Zealand: ENC now in S-63 format for free

What I did... 5.0.1 on a Macbook with Mojave...

All went well just following the instructions....
Registered with LINZ ....

Went to 'Downloads'.... downloaded BaseFile which is currently only a few weeks old.. left that sitting in my download folder.
Then things got mucky trying to find the PERMIT.txt... not in the download!!

So .. acting on advice on this thread... I went looking for the Permit txt and this is where it became interesting... just had a bit of a struggle replicating what I did last night... its an age thing...

I had received two emails from LINZ... the initial registration one and then a second one...titled
'New ENC Cell Permits available now'.
Buried within that email was
'As you have subscribed to the NZ ENC Service you are required to download updates from the NZ ENC Service website 'Download' page to ensure that your ENCs are kept up-to-date for navigationally critical information.'

Followed that link....
Took me to a page offering Base and Update downloads... nada mas...
So I 'Logged in'... and I arrived at a page showing my account details... also on the top bar was a 'Systems and Subscriptions' Tab..
Clicked that... then clicked the '+' on my system...

Bingo....
Three downloads...permit.txt... certificate pdf ...and something called ENC.PMT ( not sure what the last one is about..

Downloaded Permit.txt... left it in download folder.

Went back to OCpn... found my way to S63/Chart Cells.
Clicked on Open Cell Permits.... that looked after itself.
Clicked on Import Charts.... that all looked after itself as well.

Job done... all working....

Many thanks to the team

Are the cell permits installed now - despite the crash? Can you install charts?
The OCPN InstallPermit for this machine is tested ok?
Something of interest in the OCPN log?

1. No I gave up. It would have taken forever to cancel the error for every cell.

2. Didn't try as I got so few cell permits installed.

3. Yes all permits tested OK.

Log showed nothing as far as I could tell it was all standard stuff.

It was a clients computer. I didn't want to charge him for more time as he was happy with raster charts anyway. He was waiting to get back to home and boat in the middle of nowhere.

It was a very clean (in terms of software) ASUS NUC. W10 and an old old ancient nobeltec visual navigator installation. That's all.

Unfortunately I didn't save the log file.

Moo,

did you use your cell permits and an individual InstallPermit? Or came them from userside?

A fresh set of everything.. (for some defunct hardware of my own). So there wouldn't have been a hardware match, or fingerprint file, but none had been used before and were registered with LINZ. As I said the "test permit" results were all good.

I wondered if this was the case, but surely there would be an error message about permits not matching.

I also didn't have the OSenc plugin installed when I got the first error so thought there might be a missing DLL or something. Installed the OSenc plugin but no change.

Checked permissions, ran as administrator etc.
