I find that once you set the guard zone it shows the targets very precisely. For instance I intersect the zone with the corner of a large barge on my dock and it identifies humans as arpa targets. It also acquires them automatically. Getting a range and a bearing from 50' is something I'm considering by changing the arc dimensions.
I notice that when I have my chartplotter on at the same time the system is very erratic. I have the first three options checked for plugin preferences and no check boxes filled after the third. I'm wondering what the correct setting is for target trails. I view in overlay for the most part but can use all the screens.

For target trails of blobs on the chart overlay:
- tick the box in the preferences once
Then in the view menu set the trail duration end the trail type (off, relative trails, true trails).
The trail duration has a memory, when going from 15 sec to 10 minutes you don't have to wait 10 minutes for the trails to build, you get them immediately (if in memory, system must be on long enough)

This function handles trails of blobs (pixels). Trails of (M)ARPA targets are handles by OCPN, just like AIS target trails. So turn them on id wanted.

Check the message box. As your radar is functioning properly, you'll have to call that up via Menu > Info. If the heading source is "Magnetic heading RADAR <heading>" you're OK.

PS -- Douwe informed me that there's a bug in how we handle heading coming from the radar, which will be fixed by him shortly.

Actually, he already fixed it, see above. These fixes are now in the canboat/BR24radar_pi github repository as well.

So, the scanner is not getting my heading.

Heading on my system comes from my autopilot Raymaring 3G and gets to the NMEA2000 bus through a Raymarine Seatalk<->NMEA2000 converter. Other NMEA2000 instruments see HDG OK.

What PGN is the RI-11 box looking for ?

I also have a Vesper XB8000 that could put heading onto the NMEA2000 bus.

Any Idea how to debug this ?

The standard one, but it MUST be 10 Hz or more.

I am using myself a Raymarine Evolution Auto Pilot with the EV1 sensor core acting as compass. I have cut the Seatalk ng cable and soldered it to a cut Simnet cable. works fine, receiving magnetic headings from the radar. One problem, now and then the heading from the radar drops away a few seconds. Can't find the cause, have to live with that.
Debugging: the RI11 put a heading signal (and may be more) on the Ethernet wires 7 and 8 towards the radar. This signal has the electrical characteristics of RS422. Might be a regular NMEA signal, but I did not test that and don't know the speed.
Regarding your problem, I would expect that the seatalk - NMEA 2000 converter does not get or not convert the heading from the autopilot.

My Raymarine S3 outputs the APHDM sentence (NMEA 0183) to my ShipModul multiplexer, I can see it arriving at 10hz in OpenCPN NMEA monitor, I have the standard fluxgate.

But the Raymarine NMEA to NMEA ng converter does not convert everything. I know it does not convert the fast heading from the EV1 compass (Seatalk ng = NMEA2000) to the Seatalk.

I just completed unsralling my Simran 4G radar, using a GR25 heading sensor, RI10 I interface box and an Asus with a M3 7th gen CPU.. The setup was all plug n play, and everything worked om powering up. Not using much power.
Thanks fellows. I would not have installed a radar if it wasn't for youur work and now my little 36 nm bubble is a safer place.

I discovered something interesting after installing my radar. While in the North up mode for the radar and the chart, the radar overlay correlates fairly closely to the chart (I haven't configured my GS25 heading sensor yet). While in the course up mode for the chart and the heads up mode for the radar, the correlation is out by some degrees. Its probably something I've overlooked. I'd assume course up and heads up are different terms for the same orientation.
