Re: missing something here

I've reloaded 5.6.0 in my nav laptop. I've got the charts installed. All that's missing is my GPS, which I can't configure because I still don't have the menu bar. tools-options-show menu bar doesn't work. Can anyone tell me how to get the menu bar displyed?

Re: missing something here

Stu, I've been through several reloads. How would I go about finding a drive error?

Thanks

Tools

Show Menu Bar

Still doesn't show the Menu Bar.

My boat is pinned to the dock until I straighten this out, and I'm out of ideas.
How about TOOLS- OPTIONS - CONNECTIONS

tkeithlu....

I think we need a screenshot of your computer, with OpenCPN running. If screenshot is unable, then a clear phone camera shot will get us started.

Thanks

Re: missing something here

Let me condense this question. Getting GPS going is not the primary problem. The problem is that I cannot get the menu bar. Here's a screenshot of what I get. Can someone tell me what to do? Tools/interface/show menu bar does not work.

Re: missing something here

Isn't the vertical black rectangle at the top left of the screen your menu bar?

Re: missing something here

If it is, I'm misusing the term. I mean the string of icons across the top with all sorts of options. Is that called something different? Was that abandoned in 5.6.0?

Oh. When I delete "show menu bar" it removes the Navigate/View/AIA/Tools/Help bar. Maybe I've got everything, but didn't realize it because it looks different from 5.0.

Could someone confirm that as true, so I can stop wasting your time? Remember, my computer skills are not really up there.

Re: missing something here

Yes, you are misusing the term and your OpenCPN is not missing anything, it is exactly as it should be.

Please study the picture bellow and try to click on the stuff, you will find out everything you are looking for is there.

Re: missing something here

The side tool bar has been there in the last few versions instead of the older versions which had it at the top.

Besides less plugins turned on, your tool bar looks normal/like mine.

Re: missing something here

Windows 10 will not work with devices using pirated Prolific serial to USB converters which were common in GPS pucks. If the GPS worked before than this not your problem. A nasty problem with the GPS is if you plug it into a different USB port then it will be assigned a different COM port number and configuration. You can override this by going to Device Manager>COM ports and changing parameters even if you get a message that the port is in use. While there, Properties will tell you if you have a pirated Prolific chip in the GPS.
