Through hull valve stuck, am I missing something? Suggestions?

Just making sure I'm not missing something here, but theres a cap on my head discharge through hull valve, and I can't turn the valve either way (see below). Any suggestions? I've already tried some heat...

Hope you are out of the water...?
I don't see any pictures, but do see this is an older vessel. Could this be a gate valve?
Be sure to be ready for water intrusion.
Also, it being a sanitation through hull, might it be locked?
Erika

PS
Beautiful boat!

If it is out of the water you can spray some PB Blaster up in there from the outside, but better yet spray it from the top so gravity dribbles it down through the valve. Put a pipe on the handle and work it gradually. It is entirely possible to snap off an old seacock, so don't use too much force if it is in the water!

if the valve won't move and it is capped like that, might not want to remove the cap while in the water.....just sayin...

From the looks of it, I would leave it alone. Given the amount of corroding could brake at any time!

First make sure you are careful. To me the cap is not bronze and may be creating electrolysis. I would slightly loosen the nut ( do not take it off!) and use a rubber mallet or a piece of soft wood and gently hit the nut end of the shaft. See if that loosens it up. Be careful you are in the water.

Doesn't look like there is anything attached to that sea cock. The valve looks similar to a spartan which is a metal to metal tapered design. These can be rebuilt. You have to lap the plug to the body then use special greece (or water pump greece). don't over tighten when reassembling just enough to keep water tight.

Yeah, I'm not going to remove the cap before I can get it to turn...and leaving it alone isnt really an option either. Just going to try and move it slowly, applying heat and whatnot to try and break it loose.

what you have there is a barrel type seacock. it is a taper fit. take off the nut on the one end and tap the barrel out. you may want to leave on the nut to protect the threaded end if you need to. once the barrel is knocked loose, water will come in. you can push the tapered barrel back in to stop the water. if the boat is out of the water, you can reset the barrel in the housing by putting valve grinding compound on the taper and lapping it in. keep the barrel well lubed and adjust the tightness by turning the nut.

At the very least call a friend to be aboard if you need more than two hands, which you will if that seacock fails. And have your phone keyed up to your local diver. Seacocks can be very deceptive, and yours looks pretty corroded.
Sorry but I'm a nervous nelly, Ive seen some pretty harmless looking seacocks fail.
