Idiots Guide to Open CPN

Hi all,

I've been wanting to check out this software for some time and I figured over the winter would be ideal.

I downloaded the latest source code but I can't really see how to proceed from there.

What I'm looking for is a document that says:
Step 1 - do this
Step 2 - do the next thing...
etc.

does such a document exist? I've tried searching this forum but haven't come up with anything...

The "User Manual" describes using OpenCPN and the "Developer Manual" has instructions for building (compiling) from source.

You should consider downloading an executable version of OpenCPN from here:

If you are not a programmer why you download the source code?
Normally a user downloads the application as described above by Paul.
Once you run the application you might see a question mark in the window of the software to get help.

The Manual is not up to date, but the above page will tell you how to get the latest information on how OpenCPN works.

Paul,
Do you know what system you want to use to run OCPN? If Linux on a raspberry pi, then the easiest is to download Openplotter then update OCPN to the latest version and add charts. You will also need some sort of GPS device.
