Open CPN Works Initially But Then Will Not Open

I have installed Open CPN on my win7 / 32 bit pc and it initially works fine with CM93 charts. It continues to work after rebooting, at least for a few goes.

But then, for no obvious reason it develops a glitch. When I try to open it the program icon appears in the Windows desktop taskbar but the program does not open on the main screen. The glitch occurs whether I try to open by double clicking on the desktop shortcut or by right clicking and then selecting "OPEN" in the drop down menu. And if I try the same methods having selected the program in the PROGRAMS menu.

Trying to access it using the icon in the Windows taskbar does not work either. All that happens is that a small window appears attached to the task bar showing the opening screen of the program, located on the chart that I had open when the program was operating properly before I shut it down the last time. But that small window has no functionality, i.e. one cannot operate Open CPN from it.

If I uninstall and then reinstall the program it works fine once more, only for the same problem to reappear after a few uses.

Any help gratefully received.

I'm running W7 Ultimate on a 32 bit machine.

Have you seen this in the manual?

If your installation goes well, but OpenCPN don't start as expected, try to download and install these runtime components

Thanks for those replies.

I think I tried right clicking and enlarging last time that I had the problem, but with no success.

I have now tried to download Visual C ++ 2008, as suggested. It seems that it was already installed since I was only given repair or uninstall as options.

I went for the repair so maybe that will fix the problem. I will open up the program 10 or so times over the next 24 hours to see if the glitch recurs and will post an update as appropriate.

Hi again Terry & Gilles,

The glitch returned after a few restarts.

So I tried Gilles suggestion of right clicking in the small window opening via the taskbar and then selecting maximise. Success!
