Re: Help / FAQ

Chris,

https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...ser_manual:faq

down a way:
https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...rts_and_waters

The manual is a treasure and very worthwhile to spend some time when starting with OpenCPN. And being an experienced user as well...
You will find it bundled in with your install of OpenCPN as well: the "?" button from the tool bar gives access to it.

Re: Help / FAQ

Hi Chris - and welcome to Cruisers Forum!

On the toolbar, click the A+ button (ENC Text). If that doesn't work, go to Options (looks like a wrench), go to the Charts tab, click the Vector Chart Display sub-tab, & turn on whatever is needed to get your text to display. As a general rule, it's good to go through that whole Options dialog box to set things up as you want them. Good luck!

I am using CM93_2 2010. It covers the whole world and they are excellent. I have compared to NOAA USA Enc's as well as different Raster charts and they are fine

Re: Help / FAQ

I've just downloaded OpenCPN and some east coast charts...I don't have the outline of land (basemap?). I do have charts that seem to display fine, although it is unnerving when they disappear when I zoom out to far, to get a better overview of, say, Chesapeake Bay.

Any way to get the continent to show?

Re: Help / FAQ

Pat,

What operating system do you have?

The chart downloader can download the coast outlines. They are part of the built in chart catalogs. I am sure you can find them.

Re: Help / FAQ

I am a newbie so please show mercy. Have used and become familiar with Opncpn on my desktop for a few months and now have tried Android on my Samsung T5 tab, free version. Charts would not load and there was a message that this version may not be optimized for my Android. So I then went to the paid version and thought I would get rid of the "not optimized" message, but it was still there. Will I have the same problem with loading charts with the paid version?

Re: Help / FAQ

The paid Android version can download charts same as the Windows version. There is a dedicated online help forum for the Android version.

Re: Help / FAQ

Hi,
This is my first post so I hope I am in the right area.
I would like the Dashboard to display the Bearing to the active waypoint and the Course (Track) over the ground. Obviously, steering to keep both the same gets you to the waypoint.
I can add COG to the Dashboard, but can't find Bearing to waypoint.

Re: Help / FAQ

Jodel,

Look in the manual. When navigating to a waypoint you can turn on a window that shows details of the route.

Re: Help / FAQ

Hi,
Thanks for the help. I have BRG in the Route window and COG in Dashboard.
I have been reading the manual, but can't find if is is possible to get both BRG and COG in the same window.
Am I correct in thinking that Dashboard is customizable but does not have a BRG option and Route window is not customizable (except for fonts)?
No complaining, just learning.

Help / FAQ

Dashboard has not anything to do with routes. It just displays data from your ships instruments. Things like depth, speed, heading, wind, etc.

There is another display (not dashboard) that handles route navigation. It may be customizable from options->user interface settings. Most of the fonts colors and sizes for all the main user interface items can be adjusted. Not sure about route display but i think it is customizable.

Re: Help / FAQ

Thanks again. I understand the function of the Dashboard better now.
I have been looking for the last while but can find no way to add COG to the route window. It seems that it is only fonts that are customizable.

Re: Help / FAQ

COG is visualized only either in the dashboard and/or in the status line on the lower border of the screen.
You will not find it at the Route display. BRG yes, as you already found.

Will OpenCPN integrate multiple NMEA input ?

Will OpenCPN integrate multiple NMEA input ?

Got a stand alone AIS transponder which send AIS & GPS sentences to my OpenCPN on W10 PC via USB and would like to know if by creating another Input connection feed additional NMEA sentences (AKA navigation instrument like wind speed, depth...etc) Opencpn be able to read and integrate all MNEA into a single feed for a) its own display and; b) UDP output connection for sharing with another device ?

Thanks
