I've only just discovered OpenCPN today, very impressive. Thanks for your hard work and keeping it free. I'm anxiously waiting for a Mac binary to test out. I'm running Mac OS 10.6.2 with MacENC, but also have a whole pile of CM93 charts (as I'm sure plenty of others do!).

I don't have the Apple Dev tools installed, and doubt I'd be very helpful in troubleshooting compiler errors. I'm still willing to lend a hand if I can contribute something useful.

Help!

1. What is the latest version/beta?

2. Is it possible to overlay GRIB files on OpenCpn? I am using U.Grib - is it compatible and if so how do you do it?

Sorry I'm on the wrong thread but I'm damned if I can see a "new thread" button anywhere????

Route dialog?

Hi,
What is the meaning of the data in the route dialog :S?
(XTE, BRG, RNG, TTG and the box below)

Wild guessing: ?, bearing, remaining (dist or time?), ?, ?

Now that I am asking about acronymes, what is COG and SOG?

So, I reveiled my ignorance!

For others wondering, there is an exhaustive dictionary here: http://www.rin.org.uk/files/glossary.pdf (thank you google)

If not knowing those acronyms makes me unsuited for using ths forum, i dearly apologize! I have been sailing since I was 7 (for 32 years that is), but mostly with no or paper maps in costal areas. How bad of me not to have learnt...

Sorry, the first link is about COG course over ground etc. Those concepts are from traditional paper navigation really. Luckily the GPS does it all automatically these days..

Where are my Charts?

I'm sure it's my age and lack of computer skills, but I've downloaded the OpenCPN program onto my laptop running Window's Vista, but don't see the sample charts and going to tools and downloading charts, they don't seem to show up as available in the program. The charts seem to have downloaded ok but I'm can't seem to get the program to see them. I've un-installed and re-installed OPCN and looked for some security or firewall setting that might be preventing the installation, but I'm too dense to see if anything is amiss. Can you tell me what dumb thing I'm doing wrong. Thanks
