Heading only updates when cursor is moving

I didn't see anything about this on the OpenCPN FAQ page, or on a quick search here and on Google.

I'm playing with a digital compass I'm building using an IMU board, sending NMEA0183 heading data. I'm doing this at home right now, so I don't have GPS data streaming in.

It appears the boat will re-draw according to the heading, but only if the display is otherwise updating too (e.g. a position change, or if I'm moving the cursor around). If I stop moving the cursor, updates also stop, even though the NMEA0183 stream continues and is visible in the debug window.

I am presuming this is intentional behavior of some sort, and generally isn't a concern as GPS data is streaming in regularly in nominal use, and this problem wouldn't be encountered. But is there a way I can bypass this without having to do something janky and send "fake" GPS course updates.

Machine is a Windows 10 PC, OpenCPN 5.6.0.

Drawing heading without position is a total nonsense, the reason of your observed behavior is nobody ever tested this corner case I suppose. Easy fix, but in the code, no magic setting to make it behave as you desire.

Yeah fair enough. I ended up just spoofing the GPS signal and that works for the purpose I need.
