Other useful wish list suggestion:

Assign destination waypoint with the cursor or picking from list of waypoints.

Feature to attach a RTOFS current grib file and well as a wind grib.
OR
Utility to merge date from RTOFs current and sea temp with another Grib, selecting which grib is dominant when there is conflicting data. Utility would also be useful for extending wind, pressure data from other gribs if available, and generally getting all grib data into one file.

FYI....

Feature requests in this thread are highly likely to be lost in the ether...

Better to enter them in the Flyspray bug tracker. I know there is already a huge list of unimplemented stuff, but at least it is all in one well-known place.

This is the link in the documentation:
OpenCPN::Tracker All Projects: Tasklist It does not work and should be changed.

Somehow I got to this link after several tries, and hitting the refresh button twice.
OpenCPN::Tracker All Projects: Tasklist It works. I think it is under "Tracker" in the menu at the top of opencpn.org

Hello,

I totally agree with Dave's proposal but:

- old demands (2.x versions) should be analysed and closed if no longer accurate.
- the function "Vote" should be promoted among users, by doing this developpers will be able to satisfy "most wanted funtionalities".

But I wished to edit a wrong category entry I had entered, and could not. Then I made a double entry and could not delete the second one.

Whoever grooms and prepares the flyspray, tasks will need to know the program in detail and all improvements and be able to edit and delete. How is all this going to happen? ARe there volunteers who can do this so that we can all vote meaningfully?

I think as a start, the Flyspray left dropdown "All Projects, etc" could be groomed and added to. Should there be selectors for separate plugins? Should new Opencpn version be added? 3.3?

First task would be to organize the tasks into the structure. Sort on topics and get those tasks together. Then remove tasks that have been done or no longer apply. Then consolidate the requests.

It would be useful to have a couple of holding bins to move items that are being "Dropped" - no longer useful. Then people vote yes to drop or not.
"Cold storage" - may be useful

What do you do with Old Version Tasks and Feature requests?

I'd help too, to the extent of my knowledge of Opencpn, but I think Pavel or Dave would be the ones to say yes or no and get us started.

It would first be helpful to develop some guidelines about old requests and old flyspray for previous versions. Perhaps we start there, and review each request, determine if they have been done or not, and if they should be moved forward or if they already have an idea that has been moved forward. Then we can put those old ones to bed. -Do they get erased or just left as history?

That would get us up to speed with the process and the program development, and we would know better how to do the next steps.

I am in complete agreement that the Feature Request tasklist on FLyspray is overwhelming and difficult to deal with. I would be very happy if someone or some group took a more active role in organizing the tasks, setting priorities, deleting duplicates, etc...

Frankly, I personally focus on the bug report Projects almost exclusively, and still need more hours in a day....

So, in order to proceed, I can provide administrative privileges to one or perhaps two volunteers, who could them be turned loose on the whole problem.

Who wants to volunteer? Please consider that with admin rights come some responsibilities as well. We will all be looking for a certain level of commitment going forward, at least until the Project is organized to a usable point.

Lets nominate a FlySpray czar, and push forward...
