Re: Beta Test / Technical

Running of 4.5 does not work for me.
Win 8.1 complains about missing dlls

Tried --release and --debug
Same story.
Both build ok, just the 26 warnings.

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Hubert...
Just copy the libcurl.dll file next to opencpn.exe (and it will start complaining about another one, so copy all dlls you find in buildwin)

Re: Beta Test / Technical

That's the way I did try and now again:
after
-libcurl
-cairo
-expat
copied once claimed
we get a Windows message that is a hint of some broken file or link.

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Hubert...
Did you copy all the DLLs, even the dependencies of the dependencies (=really all the DLLs you can find under buildwin)?

The PaEC logic understands (or should understand) the incremental updates that might be downloaded. I don't know why your subsequent PaEC presses should take so long.

In my tests of US Chesapeake Bay (Region 4) ENCs, I find that immediate second press of PaEC, after initial processing takes only about 10 seconds. There is nothing to do. The progress bar just zips along.

Then, if I immediately update some cells from NOAA, only a few of the cells are updated, as you would expect. Time for this depends on how many updates have been downloaded. Usually pretty fast.

You can test this logic.
In a typical ENC folder, you will find the base chart ENC file as .000 extension. Updates have extensions of .001, .002, and so on.

Try this:
1. Temporarily rename or move the last one or two update files.
2. Run PaEC
3. Restore the renamed update files.
4. Run PaEC again. Check the log, and you should see one new SENC built, incorporating the latest update. It should run PaEC very fast.

All this activity should be reflected in the logfile.
It is surely the intent that updates be processed logically by PaEC. Lets work this out.

Dave
Dave

I updated to latest git this morning.

1. I renamed 1 update in 3 different chart files in reg 2. These updates were downloaded yesterday with the chart-downloader and have not previously been processed.
2 PaEC took ~8min
3 Restored the the 3 renamed updates.
4 PaEC took ~8 min again.

Here is the relevant excerpt from the logfile

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Thomas
Embarrassing - I should have known. But actually I have never used the simplified style so I had no experience of its effect.
What's maybe more confusing is why my settings changed. Also some units and all "show" options was returned to default during last updates??? Some installation touched or disturbed the config file??
But many thanks for the lesson.

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Now everything copied (plus compared what was missing when looking at 4.4.0) and 4.5 starts - and crashes directly.
Btw:
Code:
from the cook book:
Create a folder named uidata
  • in the case of aDebug buildin your build directory
  • in the case of a Release build in the build/Release directory
Had to move this to build/debug to get it running. In the other case no style found..

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Håkan,

as you are building under Windows as well:
can you perhaps post how your build/debug directory is looking?
In order to compare and to clean up.

Thanks

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Using Mint I had troubles compiling. Likely due to recent gcc update.
"error: ‘isnan’ was not declared in this scope" This is due to a bug in wxWidgets. The bug is solved, but didn't make it yet to Ubuntu.

In /usr/include/wx-3.0/wx/math.h:
change #define wxIsNaN(x) isnan(x) into #define wxIsNaN(x) std::isnan(x)

Then in src/plugins/wmm_pi/src/MagneticPlotMap.cpp:
change isnan into std::isnan or into wxIsNaN whatever.

I use VS2013 so my method is to:
1)
Git clone to somewhere, I use c:\Builds and then Git will make ..\OpenCPN
2)
I make ..\OpenCPN\Build where I run cmake -T v120_xp ..
3)
Then I fetch "OpenCPN_buildwin.7z" and unpack it to ..\OpenCPN\ and the files will be copied to ..\OpenCPN\Buildwin\
4)
I open VS2013 and point it to ..\OpenCPN\Build\OpenCPN.sln
5)
As the default environment is Debug I change that to Release.
6)
Then I build using Ctrl-Skift-B. And make it twice since the first build use to complain of missing dll:s
7)
The OpenCPN.exe will be stored at ..\OpenCPN\Build\Release and plugins at ..\OpenCPN\Build\Plugin\Dashboard\Release\Dashboar d.dll for example.
8)
But normally I use "Solution explorer" to point at "PACKAGE" - right click and select Build only Package. (Be sure to have opencpn set to "Start up Project" (Point and right click))
Now the Setup exe will be found at ..\OpenCPN\Build\

All, except package creation, as described at OpenCPN.org
The file structure is not a result of myself, all is built by Git and/or VS2013. See pict.
While debugging the file system is nothing I care about except if want to use a plugin. Then I've this little patch to pluginmanager.cpp row 292 at resent Github fetch:
Code:
  #if _DEBUG //Has for debug use
#ifdef __WXMSW__
    bool x;
    wxString f, volume, path, name, ext, mess;
    wxString destf, Dest = _T("C:\\Builds\\OCPN\\OpenCPN\\build\\plugins\\Debug_pi\\");

    f = wxFindFirstFile(_T("C:\\Builds\\OCPN\\OpenCPN\\build\\plugins\\dashboard_pi\\Debug\\*.*"), wxFILE);
        while (!f.empty())
        {
            wxFileName::SplitPath(f, &volume, &path, &name, &ext);
            destf = Dest;
            destf << name << _T(".") << ext;
            x = wxCopyFile(f, destf, true);
            f = wxFindNextFile();
        }
        mess = name;

    f = wxFindFirstFile(_T("C:\\Builds\\OCPN\\OpenCPN\\build\\plugins\\wmm_pi\\Debug\\*.*"), wxFILE);
        while (!f.empty())
        {
            wxFileName::SplitPath(f, &volume, &path, &name, &ext);
            destf = Dest;
            destf << name << _T(".") << ext;
            x = wxCopyFile(f, destf, true);
            f = wxFindNextFile();
        }
        mess << _T(" and ") << name;
        //x = wxCopyFile(_T("C:\\Builds\\OCPN\\OpenCPN\\build\\plugins\\BR24radar_pi\\Debug\\br24radar_pi.dll"),
        //  _T("C:\\Builds\\OCPN\\OpenCPN\\build\\plugins\\Debug_pi\\br24radar_pi.dll"), true);
        mess << _T(" copied to ") << Dest;
        wxMessageBox(mess, _T("Debug - Plugin info"));

    m_plugin_location = _T("C:\\Builds\\OCPN\\OpenCPN\\build\\plugins\\Debug_pi\\");
#endif
    #else
        m_plugin_location = plugin_dir;
    #endif
Is this an answer??

Ooops - I forgot. Files needed for package, release and debug as described at opencpn.org are copied by the help of a bat-file, attached - download and take away .pdf (You've to edit the patches.)

RooieDirk...

re:
Using Mint I had troubles compiling. Likely due to recent gcc update.

Did you notice this code added to dychart.h in the latest commit?

Code:
#ifndef __WXMSW__
using namespace std;
#include <cmath>

#undef wxIsNaN
#define wxIsNaN std::isnan
#endif
Wonder why this does not work for your build? What file is failing to compile for you? Does that .cpp file include dychart.h?
Please experiment.

Thanks
Dave

Re: Beta Test / Technical

About ENCs and PaEC:
I made a new try now with other charts, Germany and Poland. The PaEC process worked fine and all SENC was made and afterword recognized. Also was the return to O chart windows this time successful. A short delay and a black screen for a second but it survived.
It may be my previous problem was related to any or a single Netherlands chart??
Thanks
Håkan

cagney/hakan...

New code in github, this time with lots of log output to track the SENC build decision tree. Thomas, I hope you may be able to see what is happening as you rebuild SENCs with updates.

I will try the ENC Netherlands set, too.

Thanks
Dave

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Dave..
Much smother PaEC processing now. I deleted all 1466 SENC and tried again. No hangs and all files where processed. And also when I afterward deleted one SENC, only that one was processed on next PaEC run.
Also was the SENC detection complete when I later viewed ENCs.

NE_INLAND and BE_INLAND is harder to process than anticipated, that's the estimated time, around 5 minutes from start, is increased up to around 8 when these files are being processed.

My conclusion is that the PaEC process is working now.

Log for two sessions attached. First is the new PaEC and viewing and second is where I've deleted one SENC and recreated it.
