Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

Dear Cruisers,

Right on the heels of OpenCPN 5.0 I'm happy to report that the MultiRadarPlugin team has just released the first production release of our super-duper new plugin with multi-brand radar support.

Here is what we worked on over the past 18 months:
  • New major features in this release:
    • Support for OpenCPN V 5.0 and multi canvas with simultaneous overlay of two different radars
    • Revised multi radar type architecture. Adding a new radar only requires radar knowledge and can reuse the existing display technology.
    • Support for four simultaneously active radars. Multiple brands can be mixed.
  • Display and UI:
    • Real time true motion image
    • Multi canvas support with simultaneous overlay of two different radars
    • Look forward and look aft in radar windows
    • Dragging and zooming in radar windows
    • Performance and stability improvements
  • Radar support
    • Garmin HD and xHD radar support
    • Navico “new” 3G support. Older 3G radars are still supported via the BR24 type
    • Navico HALO-3, HALO-4, HALO-6 and HALO24 support

The downloads for Windows and macOS can be found here:

https://github.com/opencpn-radar-pi/...ses/tag/v5.0.0

The Ubuntu PPA should update in the following days.

This release means that as of now, we highly recommend that you use this plugin. Not only is it the only released radar plugin that works with O5, it is also much improved over the existing Garmin and Navico plugins.

Kind regards,

Håkan

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

The docking of the radar windows (PPI windows) was disabled. Reason is that on Windows they loved docking too much, docking as soon as they got near the border, but were impossible to un-dock again. Better no docking than constant docking.

this is very bad! The radar window closes the screen with the chart. As they say, not there is not here! You need a full separation of the screen on the radar/chart!
There is no possibility to expand to full screen.
There is no way to move the window to the second screen in full screen mode and that the menu would open on the second screen.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

Is there a user guide for the Radar plugin? We have Garmin HD radar. I have both OpenCPN 4.8.8 and 5.0 installed on my Windows 10 (latest updates) PC. GRadar plugin works fine on 4.8.8. Radar pi with Garmin HD does not work on 5.0. Not sure how to set it up correctly.

I'm attaching pictures of the gradar working on OpenCPN 4.8.8 and the my settings for radar pi on OpenCPN 5.0

sailcindy...
Radar_pi was not well tested for Garmin HD radar units. This is on the todo list, and will be corrected shortly.

Thanks
Dave

Is there anything in the works for quantum radars? (Raymarine)

No not much. What's needed is someone having such a radar, a MFD and interests in collecting data traffic, e.g. Wireshark, and programing skills to add the communication protocoll to the radar_pi plugin.

The plugins is made so that general stuff like screen rendering are common code for all types. Specific radar type commands and data transfer methods has to be added for each radar type.
Some initial discussions for a Raymarine type is here:https://github.com/opencpn-radar-pi/radar_pi/issues/79

The radar window (PPI) can be moved anywhere on the screen. Also outside of the OpenCPN frame. So if you have extended your Desktop to a second screen the PPI can be moved to that one I suppose? The menus are moveable as well. I haven't tested but you may give it a try.
In full screen mode I suppose you've a point and you have to stand the maximized mode and the night mode disadvantages following that. If you can bring up wxWidgets to handle the docking in another way you're very welcome.
The TimeZero, as of your link, is of course also partly a useful program but somewhat another budget?

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

I am currently testing OpenCPN 5.0 and I have the same issue as SailCindy:
My Garmin HD is working fine with version 4.8.4 but I can't get it working with version 5.0.

Dave has fixed the HD display issues, we'll be releasing a 5.0.1 update soon.
