Weatherproof cover for ST1000/ST2000 that is also a silencer?

Hey!

I don’t have an autopilot yet but am pretty sure I’ll end up getting a Raymarine ST2000+ for my small sailboat.

Now, I understand they need a cover to help with waterproofing but has anyone tried making one that also includes sound deadening?

Not sure how to achieve it, but it would be very welcome. Even if the diameter of the enclosure gets pretty big, it wouldn’t really matter.

Brainstorm with me?

From memory, the noise propagated by tiller pilots is mostly vibrations that are conducted mechanically through the tiller and the anchoring post of the pilot, not via the air. If this is so, no external muffling will not help much.

It has been some years since I used a tiller pilot, so my memory may be inaccurate.
