Through the hull transducer doesn't seem to be doing what it is supposed to be doing

I have a question concerning my Vulcan 9 chart plotter and a through the hull transducer which was installed (It’s a B&G DST-810 Thru-Hull Transducer with Depth, Speed and Temperature) It’s connected to my Vulcan 9 via a NMEA 2000 T-Connector. My problem which needs solving is it doesn’t show me an electronic photo of the depth below the hull. There is written on the screen of my chart plotter the depth and water temperature that’s all. It’s brand new right out of the box. Should it have been connected directly to the chart plotter using the sonar connection in the back of the Vulcan 9? Can someone help me with this situation?

That sounds like a settings problem in the plotter. If you're getting depth info at all the ducer is working. Not familiar with that unit but there should be a way to bring up a fishfinder display and then split that with the chart/radar display. At least most other models do that.
I find the fishfinder display a lot more useful than just a depth number.

The DST810 is speed, depth & temp ONLY, what you describe seems to be sonar, for which you would need what B&G calls a "Forward Scan" transducer.

Just finished reading through the Vulcan 9 manual on line and found this tidbit. So perhaps your point is well taken. Thanks.

Note: A 7-pin transducer cable can be connected to the port
using a 7-pin to 9-pin adaptor cable. However, if the transducer
has a paddle wheel speed sensor, the water-speed data will not
be displayed on the unit.

The nmea 2000 smart transducer does not do sonar

You need a regular transducer for that. Plugged into the transducer port.
