Ocean Signal ATB1

Anyone connected an ocean signal atb1 to a raymarine c80? I know I will need to do it via the nmea but I don't know if I will need to install the designated gps antenna for the atb1 in addition with the raymarine one. I just don't want the pushpit rail having lots of the mushroom antennas on it if I can avoid it.

From the Ocean Signal web site

Can I use an existing GPS receiver or GPS data instead of installing an additional GPS antenna for the AIS?

No. The use of the internal GPS receiver is a requirement of the AIS regulations.

The AIS can be used as a position source output by configuring it to output GPS position data (RMC NMEA sentence) although this is not generally recommended
