How do I get NMEA data from my Volvo Penta D2-55A

Hello,

Not sure this is the right place to post but here goes.

I have a Beneteau Oceanis 411 Celebration it has a Volvo Penta D2-55A engine. Is it possible to get a NMEA feed from the engine I might push onto the N2K network on board?

If so what data could I get apart from RPM? Fuel burn etc.?

What do I need to be able to DIY this?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

yes and no for Volvo Penta D2-55A
.you must convert all data from engine to nmea 2000 ,make your engine eletronic. or buy new model 2023 engine and replace engine

open the piggy bank and use this https://www.yachtd.com/products/engine_gateway.html , supports the D2 engine ( mechanical control variants only, which I believe the A is )

I don't know if it is possible or not to create a DIY system.
My 2017 D2-50 engines connect to the NMEA2000 backbone (and the Garmin MFD) via a proprietary C*PAC Easyconnect adapter box. It measures and reports many things about the engine, but unfortunately fuel flow/usage is not one of those things.

Yes its possible to use after market NMEA2000 units

I think from "C" versions on, it was an EVC controlled engine, not sure if it was ever fitted with EVC2

definitely fuel flow would not be available as standard from the A series as this was pre-EVC

I use an Actisense EMU-1 on my D255A and monitor coolant temp, oil pressure, and rpm via N2K on my B&G Triton display. You have to tap into the wires going to each gauge, and switched 12V and ground.

Re: How do I get NMEA data from my Volvo Penta D2-55A

To the OP: Did you ever get this resolved? I have a similar question with my Volvo D2-40F. There is the Yacht Devices option or Volvo has a gateway called Easy Connect which does the same but also has BlueTooth connection to a cellphone app. That looks pretty nice.
Anyone else in this space?
