I am installing a
Linux (UBUNTU) based computer on TASHTEGO and I am trying to figure a way to send/receive e-mail without
buying a
PACTOR modem which will cost as much as the
SSB radio.
Linux is working on a program called "hfterm" which will use the sound card in the computer to communicate directly with the
radio without a
PACTOR modem. The ARRL is developing WINMOR to do the same thing although I'm not sure it has been ported to Linux yet. Anybody out there with any experience with these two protocols/programs? Seems like an efficient and
money saving way to save the $1250 or so it costs for a PACTOR II MODEM / TNC.
