Garmin Inreach, BF 23 sale; worth it or not?

Inreach is $100 off, $299. Not sure if it is worth it to have. I only sail coastal on US east coast, probably almost always within cell range. Thinking that a PLB with AIS is probably a better bet?

the inreach is good to send msgs to friends / family. or to allow them to watch your live tracks.

if you only want it for the emergency button. then buy ebirb or plb. then it avoids the monthly fees too.

Thanks smac. always appreciate your input. I single hand daysailing lots, just in the bay. I clip my plb to my vest. Was thinking that the new AIS/PLB might be good. Also thinking a floating handheld VHF with distress might be good, but cliping that to the vest is big and weighty.
