Autohelm 4000

My Autohelm 4000 slipped off its bracket. It had a clatter inside the box afterwards but otherwise seemed to work normally during my sail. I opened it up today and found a small weight, a 3/4 inch long screw that fit the weight and a small black collar about 3/8 inch long. I can't figure out where these go. Maybe into the circular gyro type wheel? any help will be appreciated.!!

Re: Autohelm 4000

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Tomiller.

Any of these parts look familiar?

I didn’t see any parts list, in the Owners Manual

But the Service Manual has LOTS of information

Hey, Tomiller. Thank you for posting. You are most welcome.

There's a bit of advice buried in Gord May's response. He didn't know anything about that unit when he read your question, but the internet is wonderful for problems like this. He "scramble researched" the topic, and so can you. Every time I have a problem with a piece of equipment, I add an owner's manual PDF to a file folder on my computer. Virtually all the manufacturers post them, for free. Avoid the manual services that charge for them. I hope your autopilot is on the mend. Best wishes, --Tim.

Re: Autohelm 4000

Hello- I'm very tardy in responding to those who tried to help me with my Autohelm 4000 reassembly problem. I actually didn't find anything helpful in the users manual, parts houses or on the internet or even calling the manufacture, but I did stumble into the solution. Inside the control box there is a little donut. There is a small weight that goes through the middle. It is held in place by a screw and a small collar. These had come apart and were rattling around inside the box. The ridiculously easy solution was to finally realize that if you turn the unit 90 degrees so it is sitting the same way as it "hangs" on the boat, the donut is easily reassembled. Hopefully there is someone else out there this might help.
