Yes, that's getting close. I like the folding-down aspect. I suppose it would be possible to mod such a chair with two shallow curves of metal and a couple of clamps or friction knobs underneath...loosen slightly to heel 20 degrees port and starboard or lock off as needed.

Those five "feet" would need to be clamped or otherwise firmly attached to the floor. Thanks for the suggestion.

Before I installed a padded helm seat that was padded nice arm rest etc I could not keep crew at the helm, afterwards I could not keep them out of it, or awake!!!!

I've got a sort of seat in the rear hatch on Boracay.

But really, if we're underway and the autopilot is off then I'm going to be standing. Sitting on any seat is out of the question - vision, balance and the ability to move quickly are all too important.

For those times when they're not so important spend the money on a good autopilot and relax in the cockpit. Our CPT works just fine.

Hmm...I could Velcro that to a flippin' couple of planks of varnished wood and fab the rest as needed and bolt the lot to a pedestal. That could also work. Thanks for the tip.

All in fun...... I understand your point, but our visibility, balance, and response time has not been a problem with our habits of sitting at the helm. It probably makes a big difference with the boat the conditions, and the manner of cruising. Also, I just would not be comfortable standing for the common five or six hours that I might be at the helm, - or at least responsible for the helm while the autopilot is on. I'll confess, we sometimes will have our helmsman reading a book while seated near the wheel!
