Re: Magnetic North Shift

How Earth Almost Ended Up With a 60-Hour Day

A day on Earth would be 60 hours long, instead of the standard 24, if not for a delicate dance of the moon, the sun, and our atmosphere, that began more than two billion years ago.
And those hours may have even made the difference between life and death, for our species.

That’s the finding [1] of a team of scientists, including Professor Norman Murray, of the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics at the University of Toronto.
They recently published their findings, in the journal Science Advances [1].

When the moon first formed, scientists think a day on Earth lasted less than 10 hours. But, since then, the pull of the moon’s gravity has slowed the Earth’s spin, and continues to do so today, to the tune of about 1.7 milliseconds per century. [The Earth returns the favour, by the way, which is why the moon’s day is 29.5 Earth days long]

But there’s another factor at play — the sun’s effect on the Earth’s atmosphere. Just as the sun creates tides in our oceans, it pulls on the ocean of air surrounding the planet, causing that to bulge in what’s known as an atmospheric thermal tide.

Two billion years ago, the Earth was warmer than it is now, and spinning a little faster. So the day was about 19.5 hours long, and the natural resonance of the atmosphere almost exactly half that. This two-to-one synchronization created a torque, that balanced out the slowing effect of the moon, and kept the day at about the same length, for a billion and a half years, until it started to gradually lengthen, to its current 24 hours.

Another paper, “Possible link between Earth’s rotation rate and oxygenation”[2] published last year by Judith Klatt, in the journal Nature Geoscience, suggests a possible link, between the length of the day, and the creation of oxygen by bacteria. The so-called Great Oxidation Event began at about the same time Murray’s calculations show the Earth’s rotation stalling at 19.5 hours.

Since atmospheric oxygen is required for animal life, as we know it, any change in concentrations could have delayed, or even halted, the evolution of land animals.

As it is, Earth’s day is a reassuring 24 hours, though not a constant one. The moon continues to make our days a little longer, although other forces can pull things the other way.
In fact, on June 29, 2022 , scientists measured Earth’s shortest day, since the invention of atomic clocks, clocking in at 1.59 milliseconds under 24 hours. [3]
But that is likely to be an anomaly, bucking the long-term movement, to ever longer days.

As we increase Earth’s temperature, with global warming, we’re also making the resonant frequency move higher. We’re moving our atmosphere farther away from resonance. As a result, there’s less torque from the sun, and therefore, the length of the day is likely going to get longer, sooner than it would otherwise.

tried to model
So many models. Most being innacurate.

See ya in another 60 million............

Hapgood.

Though "Crustal Displacement" sounds more like a laundry technique.

Re: Magnetic North Shift

So what......we need to melt the ice fast before it forces a shift?
Don't tell Al Gore et al.

without constant magnetic orientation all satelits are at risk, and then our life will cease as we know it... no communicaitons... no banks, no phones, no nothing...

i truly believe this is what 2012 issue is all about.. i truly believe that the incas know something about this shift... and were able to pass down this knowledge from the previous shifts.. at least enough to be able to chart/plan it
At risk? I guess thats a personal perspective thing. A world without all those techie gadgets you just describes sounds A-OK to me. Those things all seem to me to be the things that have accelerated and erroded a better standard of living. I was a very young man in the days before pc's, cell phones, internet and twitter but i remember them well. We hated each other so much less and enjoyed what we had so much more back then...Now it seems there is never enough to satisfy even the ones of us with the most....dont get me started on banks...

Is there a way we can speed this whole magnetic shift thing up? Anything we can do to get rid of a few yuppies would be a huge plus...

sorry OP for off topic rant.
