Have you considered getting your eyes and head to look around you when you get close to a dock?

How is an app gonna help? Serious question.

To the OP,
Boats aren't like cars, and GPS won't tell you how close you are to a dock with any useful accuracy. I respectfully suggest you get a human to teach you how to dock your boat if you don't know how already.

What kind of "docking aids" would you envision an app could provide?

OpenCPN does have the ability to change the boat icon to a scaled image. I'm not sure how that would help with docking but it's in the settings under ship icon type.

Re: Docking aids APP for Android or iphone

The OP referenced SEAiq Pilot. From their features page (Features | SEAiq Pilot):

"Docking Aids: Show distance and speed to user selected fenders and single point moorings. Both graphical and textual displays."

That sounds like a basic track following function to me. But it does not answer why the OP is asking.

Or perhaps the OP (first post ever) is actually trying to drive traffic to SEAiq.

Re: Docking aids APP for Android or iphone

SEAiq Pilot says it’s specifically intended for use by river, channel, and harbor pilots. I’m guessing gps position is potentially more useful while docking when your boat is 100ft wide, vs less than 100ft long. Looks like they have non-pilot apps that make no mention of docking (at least on first glance).

No insight into what the OP is looking for though.

I agree with all the above. Learn how to drive your boat, don't expect some app to do it for you. Most important is learn what the wind does to your boat. I think we sailors are a little better at that. My car does not park itself and I would not buy one that did.

I think it’s even bigger, 100m. The SEAiq website says this:

“SEAiq includes support for displaying extra data when docking vessels. This features are intended to be useful for large commercial vessels (100+ metres) with accurate Rate-of-Turn (ROT) sensor data. It is not intended for use with small recreational craft.”
