Charts

Well I hit my first snag. We are spoiled in the US. all the free charts we want in a matter of sec.

I purchased a boat by the Philippines, and now I see there are no charts available there. Or I could not find any ENC's.

If I will be sailing back to the US from that area how do I get charts? I'm using "qtVlm" program.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Charts

S63 charts will work with your software and are available from several sources. The best and most cost effective coverage may be from private publishers or other governments (than the Philippenes).

You may find it more cost effective to look at platforms other than qtvim

Availability of cartographic data is a major factor to consider when choosing a chartplotter, whether open source, laptop based, dedicated, etc.

Re: Charts

On one of your links I found the perfect chart, but it is for garmin. Now I'll have to look into that. Hopefully I can find the chart somewhere else.

thanks

Re: Charts

You can get Garmin charts on a smartphone (using the Navionics Boating app). I have the Garmin Montana GPS which is a good choice for smaller boats, compact, low power consumption, comparatively inexpensive, reasonably good support for marine charts.

Through Navionics you could not get that particular chart, only on on a card
