Rocna's new anchor/ Hey, Anchor thread!!!

Any guesses on Rocna's new rollbar-less anchor coming out? Countdown to announcement on their site. Rocna Anchors // Rock Solid
Is it going to fit my bowsprit? Will it be made in China? So much stress.
And.......go!

Re: Rocna's new anchor/ Hey, Anchor thread!!!

Guess with new ownership they don't have to stick with the old story about the rollbar.

Re: Rocna's new anchor/ Hey, Anchor thread!!!

The Holy Grail of anchor design has been to produce an anchor that combines the thin streamlined toe of the roll bar anchors ( rather than the more bulky ballasted toe of non roll bar anchors) but without the roll bar.
There is a great shortage of excellent anchors that will fit boats that cannot accommodate a roll bar. No roll bar, but a thin toe is the best of both worlds.

The now discontinued Sword and Oceane were designs like this and recently the Manson Boss has tried the same approach. It is too early to judge the performance of the Boss (I have not seen this anchor in action)

The Sword and Oceane anchors were not a great success, but while there were reports of erratic performances I suspect there failure was more for commercial reasons rather than just the performance of the anchor.

It sounds like we are going to see another option soon which is great news.

Just say no to roll bars. Why wait, several excellent new generation non-roll bar anchors already exist. Rocna is just playing catch up.

Re: Rocna's new anchor/ Hey, Anchor thread!!!

I have a 80lb and 60lb Manson Supreme on my boat but had to cut the roll bars of to fit my cat walk, and it has made no difference to the performance at all, i think rollbars are just marketing hype.

As they always have done, they were far from the first roll bar anchor and they clearly will be far from the first non roll bar new gen anchor. They make good anchors, but they make GREAT hype.
