- My wife and I started sailing 30 years ago when we hired a 30 foot yacht from a desperate charter company, that gave us a boat without any prior sailing experience. We didn't kill ourselves and quickly bought our own 25 foot yacht that we completed in the backyard and then spent every holiday and many weekends racing and sailing to some of the remote anchorages that we love.
Sixteen years ago we retired early and started full time cruising.
