Using Amsteel as a chain stop. Also using Amsteel with a kleimheist as a snubber.
Thinking that a long loop of Dyneema attached to chain and brought back through hawsers would be a good snubber. For flex 3strand could be attached to Dyneema and brought back to the spring cleat.
Gives a high chafe line at chafe points.
Playing with this now. My mooring penant is Dyneema with Braided line before it meets the hawser. Currently riding on a Amsteel kleimheist loop. With braided line for spring. Winds are 25 knots. A loop if Amsteel is passed through my chain from now cleat to now cleat as a chain stop. Hope I explained this set up well. Your thoughts.

Interesting setup. Is the spring cleat strong enough? With this setup you seem to be using the dyneema only for chafe as the nylon line would be the weak link and you'd have to consider the loss of strength where attached to the dyneema.

Spring cleat is same as bow cleat. Given the Three strand has always been the weak point at least it would now be not a chafe point. On my mooring the 3 strand is in the water the Dyneema is attached and led up to the bow cleats.

I wanted to buy a special chain hook for my bridle. NO WAY I'll be spending $75.00 for a 3" x 4" piece of stainless with a slot in it.
I'm using a 4' piece of covered Dyneema or Spectra looped through the chain 4 times with a bowline at either end. Then I tie a random piece of 1/2" double braid through the Dyneema and let it drop through my second bow roller and make off the end to a Samson post. It's stretchy and there's no chafe.

So why don't you guys just have 1/2" three strand (or whatever size for your displacement) from the boat and roller hitched to the chain? The only fancy stuff I'm doing is tying an extra half hitch on the tail of the rolling hitch to keep it locked up.

Exactly. I use a dock line. The only time I use a bridle is on a catamaran.

Because it takes me 20 minutes to tie a rolling hitch unless I'm drunk. I don't drink often.

Really, you need the practice. I hope you do not get a winch override, the rolling hitch is about the only way you will get it out.

Back in San Diego I made a pact with myself that I would master some knots so I spent maybe a dozen evenings sitting there tying knots all over the cabin for a half an hour a pop trying to get it right.

I still get screwed up when I need to tie one "backwards" or upside down.

I m using a forged chain hook i bought at the hardware for 7bucks. , three strand.with a thimble shackled to the hook. Cheap and simple simple and quick.to.use

I thought that it might be really obvious that I was making fun of myself, Jack. Guess not.
I've been doing this because it lays down really well, slides right through my roller, and it just feels super secure. I can tie a rolling hitch, it just felt vulnerable tying a knot around chain like that, like maybe the knot would tend to work it's self loose as the chain flexed.

Tried a chain hook but threw it away after it fell off one too many times. Began using a rolling which worked fine for the next two years on the hook. Don't waste your money on a fancy piece of SS..
