Hyde Stream Stay, repair or replace

I have a 1981 Morgan 462 with a hyde stream stay system. The bearings need replacing which is not a problem, but my concern is that the aluminium foil is also the fore stay. Everytime the wind blows I get jittery, which is not a good thing on a sail boat. Is the foil strong enough or should I replace it Steve
