Recommend me a boat designer for an aluminium cat

I'm considering selling my sailing cat and getting a smaller power cat around the 35' mark.

I've looked at local naval architects who specialise in this sort of thing but they are almost all specialising in less than 30' fishing boats. I want a lightweight coastal cruiser so I want to sketch out the layout myself and have a naval architect turn that into construction details and part files.

I've sent Bruce Roberts (who seem to do exactly what I want) an email. Does anyone have experience with them, and how good is the detail and information or any other similar designer you would like to suggest.

Thanks
Dave

Re: Recommend me a boat designer for an aluminium cat

you would be surprised. Many designers can produce their designs in multiple materials. You might try just asking a designer of a boat you like that is not necessarily aluminum yet.

I know there were several ways to build my boat when I started.

Does Schionning do power cats? are you happy with your current boat overall? My designer does power cats but I could not recommend him. Not easy to work with.

I don’t know if Richard Woods still has anyone in the office but he built some amazing very small power cats that might scale up. The Skoota ones.

Edit: looks like he did scale them up.

there is a 36. could potentially be translated to aluminum.

are you looking for efficient hulls? Or are you looking for big square power boat sterns with large engines? High speed?

Hi Dave
Check this business for designs, and they can design to your requirements as well.
https://globalmarinedesign.com/

We had 2 sea rescue designs by them (both alu cats). They can deliver all panels cut outs, to your choice of builder, just weld them together

I know the NA who set up this business but he retired a few years ago.

Yes, I'd like to go ultra lightweight and run a couple of outboards - probably 70hp each. Hoping to cruise at about 15kn and 20max. I'm aiming at about 3t lightship and that's with a flybridge.

Re: Recommend me a boat designer for an aluminium cat

Dave, have you asked Jon Sayer? He's building a power cat for a client right around that size that is his own design.
Jons designed and had plenty of his boats built by amateurs so I imagine his plans must be fairly detailed.
I am not sure how well locked down his Facebook page is but there are plenty of photos of the cat on it.
Cheers

You could try Meta Yachts in France....
Meta-yachts.com
One example (not exactly what you are looking for..)
https://m.annonces-marine.com/352159...-explorer.html
At least lots of aluminium experience with different designs.
