I'd call it a cat ketch! I love the look of boats like that.

It's a "Sharpie" such as a North Carolina Cat Ketch similar to the illustration in: Welcome to Feeble Crew - Large Sailing Vessel, Feeble Crew - transitioning as fun.

Still a very popular boat with a small but dedicated following. Google Commodore Ralph Monroe (sp) and Egret.

It is part of a photo exhibit in "The Atlantic". It, and the others, are all 150 years old!

If you open the page, it is picture #24 as you scroll down. The caption reads:

  • "The "Nettie", an expedition boat on the Truckee River, western Nevada, in 1867. (Timothy O'Sullivan/National Archives and Records Administration) "

Wow... what a forum! One can ask the most obscure question, and someone has an answer in a very short period of time.

Very cool.

Graham at B&B boat works makes a current version of this boat http://www.bandbyachtdesigns.com/ec22.htm. The design is wickedly fast as a coastal cruiser
