Correct Boat - Regal 26 OX, pocket cruiser

I am thinking this boat would work for me or is it too small to spend a week or two at a time on inland lakes. I am thinking I would tow this boat to various lakes in the country to explore. Lake Cumberland, Table Rock Lake, the Finger Lakes, St. Lawrence 1000 island area, maybe the ICW etc.

I am thinking it is towable and provides ok accomodations. Oh, I would get additional canvas enclosures to add shelter space.

I think I would prefer outboard power vs an I/O.

What do you guys think?

It will certainly do the job.

If I were to set off to do what you contemplate it is not the boat I would choose, but that may be purely personal. The brochure aims at "Make a statement on the water," whatever that means, rather than telling me about its capabilities as a cruising boat. It seems more a run-about on steroids than a pocket cruiser.

Modern four-stroke outboards are quite durable.

As stated, your goal involves a week or two onboard at a stretch. From Boating Magazine's review of this model "The 26 XO is a thoughtful blend of day boat and weekender."

In other words, a step toward staying aboard from purely "Saturday Sailing." There are bunches of trailerable pocket cruisers out there that go farther in the direction of comfortable life on board for more than a weekend. For the most part, they are slower and perhaps diesel (a whopping advantage), but if you want the speed and are willing to sacrifice living comfort, then it's as good a choice as any.

I also am considering a Ranger Tug. But like what I read on the Regal. I have owned small runabout boats in the past.

I was intially thinking a bigger boat when I came across the Regal 26 pocket cruiser

The Ranger Tug is the other end of the spectrum. It's a pocket trawler, slow, economical to run, and fitted out for longer range coastal cruising. It will be more comfortable to live in. Will you be happy without the speed of the Regal?

I saw a Ranger Tug on Lake Cumberland KY once as I zoomed by in my runabout. I thought that would be a cool little cabin boat.

I saw a R-27 Rager Tug that I got on board and thought there was not many padded places to sit. The Regal 26 OX has a lot of places to sit. I will never have many people on board but I like to move around when stationary.

I have had I/O and outboard powered boats and kinda like outboard powered slightly better. Am I going down the right path for a boat that size?

I saw a video from boattest.com where the 300 HP Yamaha pushed the boat ok...but not great.

I have a ranger tug
and that regal is a day or at best weekend party boat.
I think you might be in the wrong forum. For what you
want your looking at a small cabin cruiser or pocket
trawler, unless exploring means quickly running up
and down a lake. Remember the saying" its the journey
not the destination". Your purpose and boat just seemed
a total mismatch. Just my opinion.

For your needs a Ranger Tug would give you more livable space. For typical Florida cruising, most of it is a day out on the water, maybe hit a beach, then home for the night. So the first boat you looked at would work. But for longer stints on the water, more living room is desirable.

I will relocate out of Florida and try to keep the boat in fresh water. I might relocate to somewhere between Dale Hollow Lake and Lake Cumberland. I currently have a F-250 to tow this boat which I think will be good.

In Florida once you put a boat in the salt water you need to clean it for 3 days to get all that damn salt off of it.

I will look at a few maps to see what lakes to explore. I know Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia is one as well as the 1000 Island area.

I do agree the Ranger Tug should stay as a possibly. I like it because it provides more covered shelter than the Regal 26. Also the Ranger Tug would be better for longer stays.
