Re: New story re Quest negotiations!

I'd rather camp in the desert like the Chandler's for six months than get friendly fired massacred by gun-ho 4-brain-cell French/US/Israeli/Russki "special" forces.

Re: New story re Quest negotiations!

Also, was it not the Israelis that told it's citizens that they become front line soldiers on hijacked planes?

With all due respect, you may be camping there for the rest of your life if your family can not come up with the funds to pay what your more than four brain celled captors demand. When they tire of you and your family and the inabilities of those back home to pay, do you think your captors will give you first class tickets home?

Its ridiculous.
All you lot bleat for more action and for the navy to come out shooting, and then when they do you cry like babies.

Those people lives were forfeit BEFORE the pirates even saw the yacht.

Go into those waters and its Volenti Non Fit Injuria.

And if people are part of the illiterate portion of the world go look that term up and work it out.
oh come on now MarkJ, what a reactionary post. The crew of the Quest made a decision, it doesnt mean they forfeited their lives.

We have really two options, The Navies ban pleasure boats so as to ensure that these types of "rescue" dont happen again, or we allow unprotected yachts and were forced into unsatisfactory hostage situations, either negotation or high risk recues.

My view now is that area should be closed to private vessels until the situation is resolved.

And we not all bleating for action, some are, usually the Rambo types ( in fact one poster mentioned being rescued by John Mclane or Rambo, as if holywood nonsence reflects what really happens, mostly in real life innocents die)

In my view. Id close the area and pre-emptively engage pirates. I however suspect that the this will just become an endless "suspression" process, ultimately one way or another Somalis has to be fixed.

my god, putting the Israelis into the GofA, you might as well execute all the hostages yourself. if would be like pouring gasoline on a fire.

Great rescues to be sure. But there were hostages killed there as well. Do we hold them to the same scrutiny and standards as the US Navy is under here?

Ex's are available. But you / me can't afford them. They are the dudes that cruise ships have aboard if they go that way. The israelies are the prized security people because they will never allow themselves to be taken by people of the other political/reigious persuasion.

Dave: I only read one line of your post. You are dribbling. If you want to be a cowboy and go there then GO! But don't expect me to cry over your fly blown body. You take the risk: You cop the consequences. As Quest did.

Well, I disagree, I believe that the Quest deaths were the result of a failed rescue, rather like the french skipper that dies in the french rescue. The intersection of military, pirates and innocent civilians, never has a good outcome for the civilians. Rather like most military adventures.

If the military feel the need to act, they need to clear the area of civilians, certainly the clearly indentified ones. Ogh and act they should BTW.
