We await your pleasure my leige. Might I reccommend Cornish hen under glass served with a side of facetiousness?

Back when Tiberius was still emperor? (my poor attempt at humour).

My heart goes out to their relatives. It does show the tricky situation the navies are in when they seek to rescue yachts.

Re: Another Yacht Has Been Pirated

A really tragic outcome.
But... as many have asked, what were they doing there?

I don't understand suicide bombers, and I don't understand suicide bible distributors.
Why does religion of all persuasions, pushed to extremes, pass the point of good sense?

Too much Gideon, not enough Solomon.

Re: Another Yacht Has Been Pirated

Another thought.... I also feel the outrage and instinctively want to see all the pirates anihilated.

I do think our civilized system of justice puts us in a difficult situation.
In this instance it would have been far more clinical and less complicated to have had no captured pirates...
The message would have been swift and clear with no room to manouvre after the event.

Now we have a few pirates in custody with threats flying, and they're holding 660 hostages. That's a big fist of chips.

I'm sure glad I don't have the responsibility of making the decisions... except which Cape wine to have with the venison...

Let's nail this lie , the Somalia pirates issue has nothing to do with religion Muslim Christian or otherwise.

It's a very tricky business " rescuing " crew from small yachts , as was relayed on YBW.co.uk for example the Royal NAvy will not prevent a hostage taking where the pirates already have boarded the yacht for fear that such action would result in deaths of the crew. There is enough reporting of the Quest tragedy to suggest that the potential pressure of a rescue sent the pirates over the edge.

The policy nows seems go be that in the event of ship attacks, once the crew are safe in a " citadel" various nations navies then take violent and mostly decisive action. However this has raises the stakes and just like drug wars the " game" is going to get way more violent.

The sad fact is that the whole area is effectively off limits until the problem is dealt with possibly by a combination of military and diplomatic processes.

Hey Dave,
Slow down a moment.
I don't know where you got the weird idea I was saying the Somali pirates have anything to do with religion, muslim or otherwise.

If you re-read my post without your totally incorrect interpretation,
you'll see what I was actually saying was:
1) Religions at the extremes seems to make people act as though common sense has left them... like suicide bombers, just as an example, and in this case bible distributors. Both dying for what they believe in, and a waste of life.
2) I don't understand why normally rational people make irrational decisions for their religion.

Nothing to do with the pirates being muslim, christian or jew.

You are also concurring with my statement that nobody should risk sailing there.

Gideon was brash and stormed in against incredible odds, whereas Solomon was known for his wisdom.

Sheesh... I was hoping not to have to explain everything.

Well, at least we are getting that point through! Finally!

Remember what the pirates said when they first caught the boat " Its a Big Catch"

So for all those that think yachts are not targeted, the pirates think yachts are a Big Catch.
And now they have gunned down 4 people they will continue to go after yachts because they will think the Navy will hold off from rescue attemps next time.

So if you go up there you are a Big chance of being the next Big Catch.

A certain Wall Street Journal'ist put out a good story http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...googlenews_wsj

Hostage rescue attacks are generally only undertaken when one of two conditions exist:
- the hostages are safe from retribution (ie: in a safe room or citadel)
- the hostages are in imminent danger of execution if not rescued forthwith
