Allied Seawind II vs Pearson 365

A friend called tonight and asked me for my opinion on these two critters. I've never been on either, but after looking at the numbers I told him that the Pearson would be somewhat faster and more manuverable and provide more storage and living space while the Seawind would probably track better and have a better motion, along with having a simpler direct connect steering mechanism.

For those who have sailed either/both in person anything I should add?

His plan is to start in the caribbean, eventually he wants to go to Bermuda, the Azores, and the Med.

Are they both ketch rigged? I think if they are rigged differently (sloop/cutter vs ketch), that might be a big part of the decision here.

Both are ketch rigged. If his plan was to remain in the Coastal US/Caribbean, I probably would have recommended the Pearson just based on the liveability of the interior, but since he's eventually considering longer passages that exceed the typical 3-4 day weather window for that region and the boat is might eventually have to cruise the Caribbean-Bermuda-Azores-Med-Cabo Verde-Caribbean run I wasn't sure and punted.

Those are two very different boats. Size being one major difference. True the allied has a great motion at sea.

Both are old boats. Condition may be the deciding factor.

I have never sailed the Pearson, but I own an Allied Seawind and she is a great blue water sea boat and a comfortable live-aboard. And built like a brick **** house.

Second the Allied Seawind. If I had continued to live aboard, that would have been my next boat.
