GPS into an 802

I realize this has been discussed in the past, but here’s a twist...

I’ve got the 802 and an Icom M-424G VHF radio that receives GPS data through an internal antenna. The VHF manual says it has data input and output wiring, which I’ve located, as follows:

Brown: Talker B (Data L), Data Out (-)
White: Talker A (Data H), Data Out (+)
Outputs RMC, GSA, GSV formats

Green: Listener B (Data L), GPS In (-)
Yellow: Listener A (Data H), GPS In (+)

I spoke with tech support at ICOM about tapping in to the wiring and got a vague answer, but that’s never stopped me. I ended up purchasing a BNC male plug with Q9 test hook clips and connected up the black wire to the Brown wire and the red to the White. No joy on seeing the GPS or UTC info on the 802.

Failing this, id be interested in what folks have done to wrangle FPS into their 802s.

Thanks,
Pat

Re: GPS into an 802

Well the 424 manual (and your post) says:

Quote:
The built-in GPS outputs RMC, GSA, GSV format sentence
And the 802 manual says:

Quote:
An NMEA ver. 3.01 (sentence formatters: GGA) compatible GPS receiver is required. Ask your dealer about suitable GPS receivers.
So maybe the two can't talk with each other? Would certainly ask Icom since both their products, but if you go by the manual....

Ah, GGA. For some reason I was thinking- well, never mind. Input on antennas are still welcome.

Thanks.
