Openplotter problem with software upgrade

Hi
I wonder if anyone has experienced a recent problem with Openplotter. I have been playing with Openplotter on an R-Pi 3 this month slowly adding functions and maps. And until today things seemed to be going well in preparation for the sailing season :-)

But I am used to upgrading linux with apt-get and this evening I updated and upgraded (using sudo apt-get update etc). Now when I boot the R-Pi I get a black screen with none of the usual Pixel menus etc. I can start a terminal using a right mouse click and opencpn also starts automatically and looks normal (at first I was warned that /home.pi/.config/openbox/xde-pi-rc.xml was empty, but I copied the old version of this file to this place and non longer get the warning). Is there some way to restore the previous functionality? Or do I just have to reinstall Openplotter and resist the temptation to upgrade the software?

Thanks for comments and help.
Peter

Edit: I found that replacing the new .config files by all the old ones gives me an apparently functioning system. Maybe this could help someone else. Sorry for wasting your time and bandwidth.

Although I can't help you restoring functionality, I can confirm that I have encountered similar issues with updating and ended up re-installing.

Re: Openplotter problem with software upgrade

Hi all

Just installed Openplotter and had the same problem.

I narrowed down the problem to be either:
Code:
If your SD card has 64GB or more, it will automatically be formatted as exFAT, which is not compatible with OpenPlotter
Or otherwise it is because my first install was from an Image. Anyhow the following approach works:

- Download Openplotter v1.0.0 NOOBS (Not image)
- Extract the zip file
- Insert to SD card to windows PC
- Download and run the free "SD CARD FORMATTER"
- Download and run the free "guiformat.exe" to force your SD card to format as FAT32
- Copy over the NOOBS files from the extracted zip inside the NOOBS folder to your SD card
- Eject your SD card, insert into the PI and power it on and let it install OPENPLOTTER silently (you can follow the install on the screen using and HDMI connection)
- When done it will boot OS but you will not have internet because it is working as an access point and you can not do both access point and internet on the same time.
- To get internet press the Open plotter Icon (anchor image) and then go to Network. Under network select client, press apply and restart. After the restart press the wifi symbol and wait for 10 sec then all your possible network wifi's should come up. Login to a router and get internet.
- Now open the openplotter program again, select update in the menu and update openplotter. Now everything should work correcly.

Kind Regards,
Peter

Did you enlarge the file system ? I had this problem also before. After the update with more files the partition is full. You can easily enlarge the partition with gparted or in de raspi-config menu.

That solved my problem.

If that does not work (which is sometimes the case) then there is only 1 thing left to do:
- Go to openplotter and set network to RPI3: AP + client and the sharing device as wlan0. Reboot and either use an external usb wifi or ethernet cable. That will guaranteed work.
