Re: Greek Tax! - MERGED 4 THREADS

Just bear in mind that this permits you only 180 days on the water during the next 365 days. Don't forget to tell the port police if you haul out, since time ashore doesn't count in most authorised...

Re: Greek Tax! - MERGED 4 THREADS

It seems some port police still haven't caught up with last year's changes..

The 3 month transit log charge was abolished from July 2014. Instead, a maximum stay for non-VAT paid boats of any 6...

Re: Greek Tax! - MERGED 4 THREADS

It took time for their bush telegraph to pass the message around!

They are entitled to ask to see your papers at any time - just to make sure you have a valid DEKPA. It does not need to be...

Re: Greek Tax! - MERGED 4 THREADS

The Cruising Association is in regular contact with the Greek Maritime authorities concerning the implementation of both TPP (the tax) and the 6 month duration of transit logs issued to boats...

Re: Greek Tax! - MERGED 4 THREADS

Agreed.

The CA is taking the friendly approach first, by pointing out the "apparent" conflict and suggesting change. We expect that to work, since previous approaches where we've pointed out...

Re: Greek Tax! - MERGED 4 THREADS

The Cruising Association (CA) is still in regular communication with the Greek Ministry of Maritime affairs. The system to gather taxes is ready; all boats with a DEKPA or a Transit log will be...

Re: Greek Tax! - MERGED 4 THREADS

Interesting. This conflicts with the new PP reporting provisions introduced in April - once per year.

So, either Rhodes hasn't caught up with the new rules, or else non-EU boats are being given...

Re: Greek Tax! - MERGED 4 THREADS

In Greece, more commonly known as a "transit log". Given to non-EU boats instead of a DEKPA. Extendable up to 18 months on payments every 3 months.

Re: Greek Tax! - MERGED 4 THREADS

Not quite.

PP paperwork visits every 30 days, or when called for, will no longer be required.

It is not yet clear if/how the "old style" harbour dues will be collected.
No longer.

That was...

Re: Greek Tax! - MERGED 4 THREADS

I have just updated New Greek Cruising Tax | CA (https://www.cruising.org.uk/news/greektax) to reflect the big relaxation in Port Police reporting which was introduced on April 14th with law 4256.

Re: Greek Tax! - MERGED 4 THREADS

The tax is not postponed indefinitely, it's postponed until the collection methods are properly set up.

In addition, a law is being drafted to replace the old 30 day port police reporting...

Re: Greek Tax! - MERGED 4 THREADS

If you arrive at a border in your vehicle in any EU country with your home circulation taxes unpaid, or they become unpaid during your stay, and you don't apply to import the vehicle temporarily...

Re: Greek Tax! - MERGED 4 THREADS

Alenka, for 12.1m upwards - the following logic tree applies:

Either discount for whole year (if 11 months within Greek territory - including ashore, current regs, may change)

Or pay monthly,

Re: Greek Tax! - MERGED 4 THREADS

We looked into that. "Means of Transport" (MoT) within EU (boats, planes and cars etc) have special rules governing how circulation taxes may be paid, and when they must be paid locally, as apart...

Re: Greek Tax! - MERGED 4 THREADS

To be pedantic, there is no charge for transiting Mare Librum. The Greek Ministry has made clear that UNCLOS lll , the right of innocent passage, will be respected.

The charge only kicks in if you...

Once/if it's clear you won't need to have a transit log - Pay by the month! Your costs will drop radically.

Re: Greek Tax! - MERGED 4 THREADS

Good point, that's ambiguous! I'll correct it on the CA site.

Better would be:

"This tax will apply both to EU boats, and to non-EU boats. It is the intention of the [Ministry] to abolish the...

Re: Greek Tax! - MERGED 4 THREADS

You're not exactly correct! I say that, because there's no rebate for time ashore (or in another country) once you've paid. However, boats "out of use" will not have to produce proof of payment. The...

Re: Greek Tax! - MERGED 3 THREADS

Let's see now. Uk surveys show about 7,000 boat owners base their craft overseas. It's very unlikely that more than a quarter of those are in Greece . . . So, who do the other 28,000 belong to?
