Re: Meeting people while cruising...

If you're flying a Looper flag, or if you see ours, that's an open invitation for "docktails" any time any where. We've only met the nicest people and they've stayed friends over the years.

Re: engine stop button does not work !!!!

I had the same problem on one of my Volvo TAMD-40Bs. The solenoid to shut off the fuel didn't work, but there's a little manual switch on the fuel control unit that does the trick. I got all...

Re: Removing blood stains from sails

Get an eye patch, a parrot and a skull and crossbones flag and no one will mess with you.

Re: Potomac-Chesapeake trip last minute tips?

St. Michaels - spend a day at the museum, and there are a ton of good places to eat. Annapolis - visit the USN Academy. Don't bother with the tourist trap restaurant on Ego Alley. City Dock is...

Re: Advice on where to place boat

I'll confirm what Jim Krause said. Bruce Peninsula was our favorite part of the loop so far. Tobermory, Lions Head, Meaford, and on up to Killarney, Little Current, and Baie Fine. I wish I was...

Re: IPad Nav Software decision (again) ...

Garmin Blue Charts. Free, or nearly so. It worked all through the parts of Canada and the US that we've seen so far on the Loop.

Re: Do I Look Pretty? Or Are You Lonely?

He's flying the looper flag (AGLCA) and should know better. Shame!

Re: Hatteras 53 generator removal help

Cummins handles Onan now. I thought I'd have trouble getting parts for my 30 year old generator but one phone call and the part was on its way. The new part was made better (not that getting 30...

Re: Turbo diesels aging gracefully?

We thought our Volvo TAMD 40Bs had a lot of time at 6k hours until we met a Krogen Manatee on the loop with 10k hours. Original turbos, no major problems. We change the oil every 100 hours.

Re: Kent Narrows Chesapeake Bay Channel Depth

Been there, done that (we're on the loop now but were on the Sassafras River for five years). I'd stick to the main channel and avoid Kent Island. There's a wicked current there too in addition to...

Re: Going for 12mo Cruise. What About The House?

We just got back from a five month cruise - started the Great Loop in our trawler. We used "housesittersamerica.com" to find a sitter.
The time period was too short for a renter and we had pets to...

Re: Marinas in the Inner Harbor, Baltimore, Maryland

The inner harbor marina next to the Rusty Scupper restaurant is great! We stayed there mid-week mid-summer and had the place to ourselves. Lots to do within easy walking distance.

Re: Anyone have any knowledge of Onan diesel engines?

I had no trouble getting parts for my 30 year old 8kw Onan. And the newer parts seemed better designed and reasonable priced.

Re: Boat Names...point of view

I've been told it's wise to name a boat after your mother or your daughter - she will always be your mother or your daughter. With that in mind, we named our boat "Pearl Two" after our dead cat. ...

Re: 9.9 Merc two stroke won't accelerate

Therapy, you were right. It did run better with the choke out - I never would have thought of that. It looks like a carb rebuild is coming up!

9.9 Merc two stroke won't accelerate

Worked fine this morning and then bogged down and quit. Started back up and ran enough to get home, but it won't get past 2000 rpm. Changed plugs and cleaned the filter per the manual. I'm...

Re: Trawler Fuel Consumption

Flynaround, I've got those motors in my 40' Kha Shing (also known as Vista or King) and I burn 3.2 gph at 1800 rpm for 7.1 kts. Pushing them to 2500 rpm burns 7.4 gph. Email me for more info if you...
