Tellie, Thanks for another super response to my questions. I reckon for the moment that I will go with what is planned noting your views. The ultraviolet looks like something for the future but I get the impression that the Z-Brane is over the top. Our liveaboard currently will only be for the warmer months and come October we will probably not use the boat much until the following March unless there is a period of good meteo here in the Med. Storeage systems will then feature on the agenda more. Longer term we plan to leave the med and head west depending on other things working out.
Do you also have experience of Cummins Onan generators and Garmin electronics for future reference?
Again many thanks for your quality responses, long may you be there for learners like us.

    Tellie,
We just purchased a 1985 Shannon 43 and will have some retrofit work done at Holland Marine, Green Springs Cove, FL. are they qualified to sell and install a new Spectra water maker? If not, who is nearby? We are taking the boat to Ft. Lauderdale later for other work. Is there someone there who is more qualified?

Hi Tellie. Thank you for being here, sharing your knowledge and time with us. I have Spectra Catalina 300. My product output slowly went down to 5.5 to 6.5 over about a four month period. The unit2040 hrs on it. About 2 yrs ago put in a new feed pump and a small water boost pump at the thru hull. Water production came back up. The last 6 - 7 months, product has slowly gone down and was as low as 5.5 gph. I've put all new filters in, cleaned the membrane twice, and installed a new feed pump, put in a new Salenity Probe and replaced the diverter valve. Product came back up to 7.5 to 8.5. in salt water in the Bay Islands and feed pressure was around 80psi. I am now up the Rio Dulce River. I was about to order a Clark Pump or a Membrane (or both) to get Product closer to spec. I turned the unit on here to check it out and it was making 11.5 gph, salinity @ 100ppm (It read the same in salt water and psi was 40. Would you have any insight or ideas before I through any more $at this.

    Hi Tellie,

I purchased a boat with a 15GPH engine driven water maker. I do not plan to use this feature for at least two years. But when I do use it, I want it to operate correctly. I do not really want to pickle with with chemicals and monthly rinse is not an option. My thought is to remove the membrane and filters and replace them with new ones when I want to reboot the system. Any issues with this?

The manufacturer's site only speaks to pickling the membrane with chemicals for up to 6 months. I would prefer not to have poison anywhere in my water system.

    Thanks for the advice.

    Hi Tellie,
Thanks for your message and your wonderful compliments too. I hope your daughter enjoys the book! Honestly, I could spend all day every day reading / posting on the forum—it's a great community of people. But I'm having a hard time managing my book promotions with my leisure time at the moment! All the best.

Hi Tellie. I was referred to you by GordMay. We have a Spectra 1000 that is about a year old. We were in the boat yard last week and I turned off the water maker. We are now back in the water and yesterday I turned the unit back on and restarted the auto flush. I than went outside to see if there was water coming out and it was not. I than opened the seawater intake seacock and the fresh water went out there. Somebody told me it goes out there for a few seconds than goes out the side. But the water just kept going out the seawater intake. I opened the relief valve and there was a whistling sound and the water went out the side where it normally goes. I have never had to do this before. Thanks for any help you can give me. I have posted this question on the forum under Water maker problem.
