    Hey Brad,
I am at the boatyard. Have not figured out this apparently new format for the site; kind of screwy. Wife and I will be working on the boat for the next 6 weeks, having now taken a couple weeks to play tourist and do some kayaking in BC. Even though I retired from the day job, I am still tied up with the engineering consulting. Oh well, variety is the spice of life (for lack of something better to say). We have put in a week on the decks and rails, typical annual maintenance for us. Every year, some more chunks of gelcoat (lot of cracking when the boat was fished) break the non-skid. We pull them out and replace it with FILL-IT, a compliant epoxy putty, and then more non-skid. Seems to work quite well. Do you have a NorCold? If so, do you know a source of replacement parts, in particular the thermostat???

How far away from Haines are you captain in days of sailing? It is about 500 miles by sea? Is it OK to sail this in Summertime? Do you know anyone who would want a crew to sail north of you from Haines? My partner is a builder and was a SEAL. He is skilled in welding and fixing things and has been on the sea in steel boats but not sailing boats. We need experience and training before we buy our own sailing ship. I have has three years sailing the Tasmania Australia seas and building wooden sail boats as well. We are both early 60s, my partner very strong and I am good cook and cleaner and watch and can steer! lol.

I'm from up the road (AP) I know the Fry guy and his first mate. Went out and fished my IFQ with him a couple of times. I also fished the Inlet, sold out this summer.
I'm in VA and bought a boat, a 43' Amphitrite, keep looking at where to put the poles and fish box.
So what engine are you putting in?

Not really personal questions. What's to know?

    Dear Captain 58:
I can see that you work in the oilfield. Me too. I am in Venezuela and have been a directional driller for 31 years now. I was born in Luanda and lived in Cabinda until I was 17. My dad worked for Gulf/Chevron for 37 years in Malongo. The world is small indeed.
Anyway, thank you for your contribuition to my thread about electronics. As I live in Brasil, I am subject only to Garmin old products and Raymarine costing 3 times as much as in USA. So I am looking to use Furuno or Simrad. My boat is a Trawler and I will try to have a simple, but decent set of electronics including a radar. The only issue that I have yet to figure out is about the Simrad NX40/45. I wonder if they can build up an integrated system to be used in two different command stations; Fly and Saloon. But I'll found out one way or the other. Simrad in Brazil was asked about it 3 months ago and up to now they haven't given me an answer...Thank you again!
