Yes, I'm a Powerboater ...

And not ashamed of it....
Been boating for over 45 yrs, done yatch deliveries for 41 "off and on" years.
My entire "sailboating" is a couple of rides on a 16' Hobie Cat in the early 70's and I DID do two deliveries of 49' sailboats from St Augustine to Jacksonville (both fully under power)......
I am a (gasp) powerboater.......
Have my master captain license, had my own charter boat business in the 90's ( a 23' center console I used for kingfish tounaments mainly). Belong to the Power Squadron- am a certified instuctor.
We've been full time liveaboards since we sold the house in 2000 and bought the Hatteras..
Just retired from the phone company after 42 yrs in May....
Born and raised in Florida....Why should I live anywhere else ...
Been asked by many WHY I have never tried sailing... My stock answer is, never been invited...Guessing that's cuz I'm a beer drinker and don't care for wine...
Know my "sense of humor" will get me in trouble from time to time, but it's all in fun (Took Capt Force a while to get use to me....now we're good friends).... But all is typed with good meaning and upbeat...
I'm here cuz the Livingaboard site suddeningly closed done and I'm looking for other sites ......

Not trolling are you

they say that if you stay healthy and boat longer enough that there is a trawler in every sailors future

If I was to take my last sailing trip as an example, I am also a powerboater (i.e., motored more than sailed due to lack of wind).

Jaxfish-Welcome Aboard! I am a powerboater and have been here about a year or so. I have been reasonably well tolerated!

I lived in Atlantic Beach quite a few years ago, graduated from UNF. Used to hang out at Pete's Bar at the foot of Atlantic Avenue!

Power boat owners are welcome here.

Even the Dashews succumbed to the "dark side" and their FPB series looks fantastic.

I would trade my sailboat for something without all this pesky string, a back "Porch" and a "Back door" but my wife won't let me. I want a Hat LRC

If they ever give you trouble jaxfish, ask them why they have a steaming light on the front of their mast. Could it be that they ARE power boaters at times?

jaxfish, whether you sail as a silly blowboater (*raises hand here), or rumble around in a power boat, you're still on the water.

Welcome!

Re: Yes, I'm a Powerboater...

Welcome aboard!

As soon as I start my engine I become a powerboater even if my sails are still up.

Power boater's oath: "I am a powerboater, but I can change, if I have to, I guess."

That was borrowed from the Possum Lodge oath on the Red Green show.

kind regards,

Re: Yes, I'm a Powerboater...

We leave the marina as powerboaters and come back as powerboaters. If the Admiral had anything to do with it we would get rid of the sailboat and live in one of those 'much nicer homes without a mast' like our best friends and neighbours....
