Non US Captain

Hello we are taking delivery of a 75' Motor yacht. We have been running our own boat primarily in the Gulf of Mexico, Florida Atlantic, Florida Keys and Bahamas for many years in boats from 50' to 60'. Getting older and with larger boat need help. Also we are planning longer voyages. Boat is to be registered in BVI, we do not want a US Captain. Any leads out there would be appreciated. Boat will be based in Florida. We take delivery in November 2008.

Adios - the problem with a non-us captain for a boat stationed in the USA is the work and residency permit for him/her; and there is probably only a small pool of non-American captains with LPR status. Sponsorship rules have gotten so restrictive that there is little likelihood of doing it that way.

Search the internet for "yacht crew" to find listing services. You probably should consider a captain and deck mate as a minimum. It takes two to dock a boat of that size. I''m in the same situation as you. I havn't "bit the bullet " yet but we are getting close.

My wife and I have operated our 63' boat for a number of years. I need that 3rd hand in as much as I have 50 years experience operating boats in the 50 and 60' range. Getting older need a third hand. A second mate would do but i prefer a Captain with at least 100 ton licesnse or equivelent .

The non-US professional crewing agencies would give you the best advice on how to get around the work permit issues for a foreign flagged yacht.

I think of someone with a license as a captain. Someone without a license as a skipper. I know these terms are debatable. So when you say captain, do you mean someone with or without a license? Why rule out a US licensed captain?...just curious.
