Boat Drinks

Ahoy to you all!!! I am admitting publicly I have the boat bug. I just started taking sailing classes and have a wife and 3 kids (ages 5,3, and 2). I want nothing more than to sell my house, by a cat, live aboard and raise my family. This has come with some negative feedback from my wife. I have motored a few years, am a PADI dive instructor, but I must grow my sea legs indefinately. Anyways, just wanted to say Ahoy.

Start small with sailing. Don't scare her half to death and say your selling the house, buying a 60 foot boat and are going to sail around the world. In fact, don't buy any boat for now. Join a sailing club that already has boats or charter a boat for your next vacation. Get her slowly involved in sailing, so that she learns to like it first, and then consider scaling up. For many people, sailing is boring because they do not understand what is happening. So get her some sailing lessons. If she gets to like sailing, then so much the better. She has to want it though for your idea to work.

What is your income level?
It might just be cheaper to go get the boat.

Boat drinks
By: jimmy buffett (1979)

Boat drinks
Boys in the band ordered boat drinks
Visitors scored on the home rink
Everything seems to be wrong

Lately, newspaper mentioned cheap air fare
I gotta to fly to saint somewhere
Im close to bodily harm

Twenty degrees and the hockey games on
Nobody cares they are way too far gone
Screamin boat drinks, something to keep em all warm

This mornin, I shot six holes in my freezer
I think I got cabin fever
Somebody sound the alarm

Id like to go where the pace of lifes slow
Could you beam me somewhere mr. scott?
Any ol place here on earth or in space
You pick the century and Ill pick the spot

Oh I know, (I know)
I should be leaving this climate
I got a verse but cant rhyme it
I gotta go where its warm

Boat drinks
Waitress I need two more boat drinks
Then Im headin south fore my dream shrinks

I gotta go where its warm (I gotta go where its warm)
I gotta go where its warm (I gotta go where its warm)
I gotta go where its warm!

I gotta go where there aint any snow
Where there aint any blow
cause my fin sinks so low
I gotta go where its warm

Aloha
Welcome aboard! Gord has sent you some good lyrics from Jimmy. He must be a parrothead.
Hope you enjoy the forum. 32-36 LOD, FG, D, aft cockpit, Sloop or Cutter is always my recommendation.
Kind regards,
JohnL

Dark rum and water, wedge of lime. Bacardi Select or Myers. Ice if you've got it.

My 2 cents... from experience... started long ago with a frightened wife and two non-swimmer daughters (ages 4 and 6)

Don't try to teach anyone to sail... you really want it to be stress free from the beginning.. so don't even try to get them started.

I know, I know, you're a great husband and a great father -- but wouldn't you rather they be confident as sailors and interested, excited at the prospects that already interest you? Don't take the chance but trying to push it on them.

(1) instead of you taking sailing classes... send your wife, let her learn on her own, without you, and from an on the water sailing school, preferably female oriented.

(2) as soon as the kids can swim (if they can't - then send them to a top rated swimming school - I picked a school that's also SCUBA oriented myself) then they get to go to a "sailing camp" and learn (again not from you) to sail with other kids and have a blast!

Sailing is not for everyone, but you'll be a very happy man if they take to it and learn to enjoy it!

My best experiences were those of sailing with the kids, especially when they were young and hungry for the adventure of it all.

All the best,
